> J ; MILFORD Library Notes , ; By Mrs. Dorothea Keriln This is the time of year that all business places are in the throes of trial balances, yearly reports, tax reports and a comparison of gains or losses over the previous year. The library is no exception. We are concerned over our public relations, the types of books most in demand, the number of new borrowers registered, those who are inactive and why, as well as the financial status of the library. The following figures should be of interest to friends of the library: New borrowers registered during 1966 137 Cards withdrawn 102 Total number of cards in our files 1.364 Total number of books on hand ■ 10,918 Number of magazines and papers taken regularly .... 42 Total number of books loaned during the year . ... 25,556 as compared to 22.927 in 1965. Many expressions of interest in the library were indicated by money and books given in memory of friends and relatives. Those who have been remembered during the year were James Stuckman (three enlarged framed pictures taken from pictures he had taken, as well as a floor lamp, with money yet to be spent); Mrs. Arilla Bowers (books by neighbors and the Columbian Reading Circle»; Mrs. Roy Treesh (books* from friends and neighbors; and money from neighbors: Roy Treesh (floor lamp by a bridge club' and money from neighbors; Mrs. Helen

Benson Gilbert (money from Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Gilbert). Fifty-three books were added to the library’s collection during the year as outright gifts or those purchased from memorial funds. Many new books are now being processed and will soon be available for the asking, for adults and juveniles. Watch this column for future listings. What would be your definition of a public library? We have several definitions or descriptions ... it is a place to known, to grow and to go. It is a pleasure palace, a chapel, a university. It is a meeting place ... a place wherein you can meet and converse with the most exciting minds of the ages and of today . . . it is a source of joy, inspiration, knowledge, pleasure. It serves the school child, the businessman, the housewife, and the secretary, the farmer and the teacher. To maintain the best possible service for everyone, your library needs your support; boost it, use it, support it. Memorial contributions to.your library benefit the whole community. Christian Science Lesson For This Sunday “Love” is the subject of the Les-son-Sermon to be read in all Christian Science churches this Sunday.
