REMEMBER . . . WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO A letter of resignation from Waite-.' Hagerdon, sanitation commissioner, was read by Syracuse town board president A. Byron Connolly during the board’s regular meeting Tuesday evening. Fire which apparently started from an open wall socket, did from SB,OOO to $9,000 damage to the Syracuse Case last Sunday night. Willard Nusbaum was elected president of the Syracuse Plan Commission during an organization meeting held Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Beck are at Pompano Beach, Fla., for the winter. Ray Yoder and Clyde Weaver left by plane from Chicago Thursday evening for Phoenix, Ariz., and Acapulco, Mexico. FIVE YEARS AGO Syracuse firemen are using the new 60 by 64 foot fire station which was recently constructed after the old station burned to the ground. The Foo and Faye bowling team from the Thursday Night Ladies’ League captured the top honors in the team events over the week end. Rev. H. Y’oder, former pastor of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel, and his family plan to move to Pigeon, Mich., where he is minister of the Pigeon Mennonite church. Lester Mock, r 3, was admitted to the Goshen hospital for surgery on Thursday. Mrs. Bessie Mabie Swihart, 63. of North Manchester, sister of Gilbert George of here, died of a heart attack Tuesday. TEN YEARS AGO Members of the Lutheran church met Tuesday for a family supper and the annual meeting at the church. Miss Florence Foster and Eldred Mabie were married at 7 o’clock on Saturday evening in the Methodist church. Don Enyeart of the Syracuse police department was guest speaker at the Rotary club Monday night. Alva Crowl, r 3, was admitted to the Goshen hospital last week for medical treatment

Members of the Wednesday Afternoon club met January 9 in the home of Mrs. Elnora Colwell. TWENTY YEARS AGO Trustee M. F. Jones is having repairs made at the grade school building starting this week. Mrs. Paul LeCount and Mrs. Fielden Sharp entertained the Ladies Aid Society of the EUB church in the LeCount home Wednesday afternoon. On January 12, 1918, tins area received a jolt from “Old Man Winter” to the tune of 28 to 30 below zero and a 12 inch snow fall. Mr. and Mrs. Don Beer and baby of Milford visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Rarig, on Sunday. The B and O railroad will early this spring erect automatic gates at the Huntington street crossing to take the place of the present flasher system. FORTY YEARS AGO The fire department was called to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Rex on south Main street at about noon Sunday. No damage was reported. Elwood George, who is spending the winter at Panama City, Fla., suffered a stroke recently. Vern Brown, south Huntington street, got his right hand cut badly at his work at the Syracuse Manufacturing Company Tuesday morning. G. O. Smith, veterinarian of Ligonier. did a land office business in Syracuse Monday when he vaccinated about 20 dogs for rabies. In Kosciusko county there were 27 births and 29 deaths reported for November. Telephone Books To Be Delayed Until May The Warsaw area telephone directory, usually distributed in March each year, is scheduled for distribution approximately on May 19, 1967, according to Don R. Trease, Warsaw district manager fcr United Telephone Company of Indiana, Inc. “The delay is necessitated”, stated Trease, “by a change of equipment in the Warsaw and Leesburg central offices and by the Millersburg dial conversion tentatively scheduled for completion on or about June 4, 1967. These equipment change-oxers will, in turn, necessitate some revision in the instructional information and some number changes, particularly at Millersburg.” The closing date for changes to be made in directory listings will be announced within the next fewweeks. .
