REMEMBER . . . WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO A total of $2,499.34 was taken in during 1965 by the town of Syracuse in the parking meters, town clerktreasurer Walter Calnon stated today. Charles Cable, a senior in business and economics at LaVeme college La Verne, Calif., and the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cable of r 2 Syracuse, was nominated and accepted into the Who’s Who Among American Students in colleges and universities. Albert Keefer is a patient in the Orn nursing home at Milford. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Beckman left this week to visit friends in Tucson and Mesa, Ariz. Mrs. William White of Cisne, 111., spent a few days last week in the home of her siiter, Mrs. Arthur Folger, Mr. Fol ger and family on r 4 Syracuse. FIVE. YEARS AGO Students in the Syracuse school will be dismissed at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, for the county tourney. The Syracuse Lions club is sponsoring a seat belt drive. Robert Hulley is the project chairman. AM2 Blair R. Laughlin, Jr., returned to Brunswick, Me., following a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blair Laughlin. Jane Stoelting, Mrs. Harry Appenzeller and Mrs. Douglas Means were dismissed from the Goshen hospital over the week end. Mrs. Donald (Blanche) Hart of r 2 Syracuse died Sunday. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, seven grandchildren, one brother and one sister. TEN YEARS AGO Bob and Terry McClintic and Dave Rupprecht returned Monday from a hunting trip. Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Yoder and family have returned from a recent holiday visit to New Albany where they stayed with Mrs. Yoder’s mother, Mrs. Mamie Wesner. Cadet W T . J. Nusbaum has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant at Howe Military Academy. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ritter celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary December 24. Gary Eyer, son of Mrs. Orvil Orn, has been promoted to corporal. Gary is a member of the United States army.

TWENTY YEARS AGO George Weybright departed on the S. Lindenwood Victory from New Orleans, La., December 19. Mr. Weybright was one of the 32 cattle tenders for a load of 173 cows and 16 calves being sent by the Brethren Service Group to Shankhai, China. Mr. and Mrs. Mel Rapp left last Saturday for Florida where they will spend a few weeks. Huston Winters has returned from a visit to California and will be at the Cincinnati, Ohio, Methodist home this week. C. C. Bachman left Thursday for Saint Petersburg, Fla., for the rest of the winter. The will of Fred B. Self, who died December 7, has been admitted for probate in circuit court. The heirs are the widow and one daughter. FORTY YEARS AGO The Syracuse Independents closed the old year by defeating the Wolf Lake Pirates Thursday night, 35 to 32. Brown In Parade Os Roses Steven Brawn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alton J. Brown of r 3 Warsaw, is a member of the Purdue band which went to California to march in the Parade of Roses. The 325 member band / left Lafayette by train on December 26, stopping for short concerts in Denver, Colo., Salt Lake City, Utah, and las Vegas. Nev. While in California the band played at the Palladium, spent a day at Disneyland, marched in the Parade of Roses and played at the Rose Bowl game on January 2. En route home they stopped at the Grand Canyon, played at a concert at Albuquerque. N. M., and will arrive at Lafayette January 5. Steven graduated from Pierceton high school in 1965 and is in second year pharmacy at Purdue. Someone defined the awkward age for a boy as that age when he is undecided whether to offer the bus seat to a girl or race her for it.
