Kip Allen Host At Dinner Party Kip ABai entertained at a dinner party at his home Mickey Kissane, Stanley Mattering. Rols Turing, Robert Osbun, Ken and Ken Michael Allen. The afternoon was spent in pteying games. 25th Wedding Anniversary Observed Mr. and Mrs. Morris Huffman had open house December 26 in honor of their 25th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Gordon Schuler of Mishawaka. Mrs. Lester Vandermark of Warsaw and Mrs. Wallace Huffman served as hostesses. . Pink and silver was carried out in the decorations. A pink rose centerpiece with silver numerals 25 centered the refreshment table. Silver candles were also used on the table. Refreshments of punch. ( coffee and cake were served the 56 guests. Many gifts were received by the honored _cguple. American Legion Auxiliary ; Christmas Party Members of the American Legion ; Auxiliary held their Christmas par- ; ty at the home of Mrs. John Lursen in Warsaw. Winners In Home Yule Decorations In the home Christmas decoration contest in Leesburg the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Blankenship was chosen as winner in the originality group. The nativity scene was on the west side of the home and Santa and reindeer and other decorations on the east. In overall effectiveness the winner was Mr. and Mrs. Roger Me Connell with a tie for second place being Mr. and Mrs. Harold Irvine and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Diesch. Other displays considered in judging were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Osbun, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Deeter. Mr. and Mrs. Junior Goon, Dr. and Mrs. Norvin Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. William Main. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Huffman; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Kammerer and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Koch. The judges were James Heierman. Bridge Club Meets Mrs Al Heicrman was hostess to members of her bridge club Thursday night Mrs. Carl Richey was winner of first? prize and second prize was won by Mrs. Heierman. The hostess served refreshments to the group.
In Auto Accident Larry Rodgers and Mike Lee sustained injuries when the car driven by Mike Lee went out of control and overturned on a road west of Leesburg. The accident occurred about 1:30 Sunday morning. The automobile was badly damaged and some damage was done to the fence. John Moneyheffer heard the crash and went to aid the boys. Suffers Injuries In Fall At Defiance Mrs. Mabel Wallace Hoover sustained injuries in a fall while visiting her daughter Dorothy at Defiance, Ohio. She is in a hospital there. She resides in Anderson, but formerly resided in Leesburg for a number of years. Two Purdue University coeds and a girl from Chandler are probably daydreaming a little in class over the five fun-packed days they spent at the 44th National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago Nov. 28 - Dec. 1 The Purdue girls are Jane Hadley, 18, of Coatesville, and Cheryl Patzka, 19, of Union Mills. Her major project was remodeling the Patzka attic—-which had been strictly for storage—into two handsome bedrooms. She tore down walls, installed insulation, laid flooring, did the electrical wiring, painted the walls and varnished the woodwork. She also renovated most of the furniture. Hospital Notes MRS. DALE PLUMMER SUFFERS ATTACK Mrs. Dale (Ruth) Plummer, Syracuse, a clerk in the State Bank of Syracuse, suffered an attack in her home on Thursday evening. The Syracuse first aid unit was called pnd she was taken to the Goshen hospital. She was transferred to the Saint Joseph hospital at South Bend on Friday where she remained in a critical condition. She showed signs of improvement on Monday evening and more tests were taken Tuesday to determine the cause of the attack. Mrs. Thelma Dahl, Syracuse, was released from the Goshen hospital on Tuesday. Chester Carpenter, Jr., of r 1 Syracuse, was admitted last Friday to the Memorial hospital in South Bend. He is in room 809 and will remain there for about two weeks. Mrs. Alary E. Logan. Syracuse, was released from the Goshen hospital last Wednesday. Airs. Donna Kay Neff, Syracuse, was admitted to the Goshen hospital Thursday. She was released Saturday. L. E. Craig, r 3 Syracuse, was admitted to the Alethodist hospital in Indianapolis bn December 25. He underwent major surgery Tuesday. His room number is 227. Gary Lee A’anator, North Webster, was admitted to the Goshen hospital Friday. He was released on Saturday. Paul Snyder, son of Air. and Mrs. Alaurice Snyder, Syracuse, was released from the Goshen hospital Friday. Arthur E. Hartwig, Syracuse, was admitted to the Goshen hospital last week. Thomas R. He wilj now undergo about three weeks of I individual combat training and then, after leave at home, will report] to his first Alarine Corps assignntent. The intensified Marine recruit training emphasizes rigid physical conditioning and survival techniques, both at sea and ashore, to develop self-confidence and endurance. Alarksmanship with the ALI 4 rifle and 45-calibre pistol are equally stressed, and close order drill instills the traditions of Alarine Corps teamwork. , ' A thorough study of basic military’ subjects; hygiene; first aid and sanitation; and the customs, courtesies, history and mission of the Marine Corps' serve to polish the new Alarxne’s recruit education and prepare him to join Alarine combat forces. Roberts of 107 east Van Buran street, Nappanee. has been graduated from nine weeks of navy basic training at the naval training center here. In the first weeks of his naval service be studied military sub jeets and lived and worked under conditions similar to those he will encounter on his first ship or at his first shore station. In making the transition ’from civilian life to naval service, he received instruction under veteran navy petty officers.
