Jackets Bow To Mentone, Trojans Win Two Games

By Mark Ramstr The Milford Trojans have finally succeeded in defeating the Pierceton Cubs after several unsuccessful tries Our memory states that 1961 j seems to be -the last time Milford stomped Pierceton. In that year I Milford won the county tourney The final score was a close one in tins game 57 Milford. 56 Pierceton. The statistics show Milford played a near perfect game Considering the pressure and the prestige of this game with the horeeslioe at stake Milford hed only 10 errors 1 including eight lost bails, one travel and one three second violation The Milford Trojans, under the direction of Bill Dorsey, out rebounded the Pierceton Cubs under die direction of Tom Sittier two to one at the half stop and finished out with 56 rebounds to Pierceton’s 41. In the third period of play the Trojans lost six points to the (Mbs and were also out rebounded However, in the fourth period the Trojan* came hack and held on to control of the boards and let Pierceton gain only throe points. Pierceton never led the Trojans by more than one point. Park Phend was the leading scorer for the team with 19 big ones and rolled in third in rebounds with 14. Dan Brown scored 17 to aid his comrades and added 17 rebounds to the chart. Stan Wuthrich. Milford’s other 6’ 3“ man. still leads rebounding with 18. The Pierceton (Mb’s Dana Cone was held to a nxirgipal 12 points during the game Cone is one of the top scorers n the county. Pierceton’s leading scorer was Boggs with 14 followed by' Pletcher with 10. Pierceton attempted 20 free throws, and netted 12 for 60 per cent while Milford attempted 25 and nailed 11. The Milford squad was but rebounded by Pierceton to giro them the disadvantage. Milford vs. Wakarusa The Milford Trojans under the direction of coach Bill Dorsey pulled down victory number four against Wakarusa Saturday. The final score of the game was 70 Mfl-f&-d. 56 Wakarusa. Mitfords 6’ 5’ giant killer Park Phend piaved an excellent game pulling through with 27 points. 17 of which were from free throw's, and led rebounding with 13. Phend hit an average of 90 per cent from the chantv stripe and 70 per cent of his field goab having only seven attempts at the basket. Park now hokis an average of 18.4 points per game Ned and Ted Speicher played their familiar role as guards and keeping control over the ball for the Trojans Ned scored 14 points and Ted, 10 Dan Brown also came in double figures with 10 points and bagged eight rebounds for the Trojans Stan Wuthrich came in second in rebounding with 10 and is leading Park Phend in totals by two rebounds, Wuthrich has 69 to Phend’s 67. Wakarusa had two of its tall men foul out. Stichter and Martin both well over 6’ hurt the team badly by leaving Milford's tall men open. Leading scorer for Waky was Doty’ with 16 and Jamison with 13. North Webster Downs Larwill 79-72 Nov. 23 The Trojans from North Webster continued their winning streak in a pre-Thanksgiving game last Wednesday as they downed the visiting Trojans from Larwill 79-72. The home team led all the way. Hine was high point man,for the evening with 25. He was followed by White with 24. Stalter was the onlyother North Webster player in double figures with 11. Campbell led the visitors with 17 points. He was followed by J. Walter with 16. North Webster led 23-14 at the first stop. 42-32 at half time, and 58-50 at the end of the third quarter. North Webster led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter and held the lead 31-25 at half time. However, they were overpowered by the Wolves in the third quarter and were downed one point 44-45 at the gun. The Wolves continued scoring in the final stanza.

Four-Way Reserve Tourney Dec. 5-6

A four-way reserve tourney will be held in the Syracuse gym on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 5 and 6. with North Webster. Milford. Ligonier and Syracuse participating. In a drawing held Monday at the Syracuse school. North Webster and Milford were paired to open the tourney at 6:15 Monday. Ligonier and Syracuse will clash at 7:30.
