American Legion And Auxiliary Activities Well Attended; Supper Oct. 29
The annual birthday supper honorin'* members of the local American Legion Post 253 was held at the Legion home last Saturday night with the Auxiliary Unit preparing a beef and noodle dinner with carry-in complement. The birthday cake was baked and decorated by Mrs. Don Adair and served as decorations along with a floral arrangement which was later , presented to Mrs. Jacob Krouse as door prize. Those attending were Commander j Don Cretcher and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Wagoner. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Vanator and family, j Herman Adams. Mrs. Edith Rest- j trson, Mrs. Ermal Vanator, Mrs. Lillian Barker. Mrs. Jacob Krouse. ’ Mrs. Elmore Enyeart, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Bodkin. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Angel and family, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Mort arid daughter. Mrs. Julie Rogers and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Adair and sons. Joint Meeting Monday Night A joint meeting of the Herbert Kuhn Post and the Auxiliary was held Monday night Plans were completed for a Halloween party’ to be held Saturday night beginning with open house at noon. The evening meal will be served from 8 to 10 coinciding with the masquerade which will be judged and prizes awarded. Planned entertainment will complete the evening. Plans were also made to serve meals to election board members at the various precinct polls. The forth, comin.: auxiliary district meeting to be held November 9 at Knox was arnounced. The “Indiana Cookie and Candy Pact was read. It was started by a state president. Mrs Moore. Each unit is asked to send cookies < homemade <ind wrapped mdividnally in saran wrap; also hard candy, gum and pre-sweetened Kool-Ade'. Anyone interested in sending cookies is asked to take them to the Legion heme on November 5 or November 8 as they must be mailed by November 10 All members are asked to sell tickets for die annual Fall which will be held as usual on Saturday night preceding Thanksgiving. Mrs. Elmore Enyeart, president, Mrs. Edith Kesterson, treasurer, and vice presidents, Mrs. Eva Brunner and Kathryn Ellison will meet on Thursday night and prepare the annual budget for presentation to the unit. Members enjoyed refreshments of coffee and cookies following the meeting and were informed that refreshments for the next meeting wih be sack lunches. —NW— Sechrist Park Halloween Party The Sullivan Park Association at : Sechrist lake held a Hallowe'en | party October 22 at the Barbee Lake Conservation dub house. The children arrived costumed and were 1 given treats. All those present enjoyed movies, games, and delicious re- ' freshments. Members of the committee were Mr. and Mrs. William Thompson, Mrs. Boyd Howard and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ritchie. -NW- < Services Held Sunday In North Webster Church Services were held Sunday in the remodeled sanctuary of the North Webster Church of the Brethren. New carpeting, new ceilings, new lighting fixtures and new pews and pulpit furniture have been installed and the walls have been refinished. Rev. Clayton J. Mock is pastor of the church Building committee members are Robert Mishler, chairman; John Reasoner, Paul Royer. Mrs. Glen Whitehead. Mrs. Howard Kiser. Ralph Kiser and Joe Shock. i Services had been held in the : Knights of Pythias building while the remodeling was in progress Work still to be completed involves (installation of folding partitions and a storage cabinet in the basement, i and installation of new entrance doors and an outdoor bulletin board. A project worthy of note has been undertaken by those members of the church having artistic ability, under the direction of Mrs. Howard Kiser. They are painting a mural on the walls just inside the front entrance. The theme of the mural is “Beside the Still Waters.” The idea for the

Formal Dedication A formal program dedicating the newly remodeled facilities is planned for early December when the building work is expected to be completed. —NWNorth Webster Firemen To Hold Open House Oct. 30 Members of the North Webster fire department are inviting residents of this area to visit the town hall between 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday and see the department’s fire fighting equipment, including one of the largest pumpers in the county. The volunteer department members will be on hand to show visitors around and to answer any questions which you might have. Refreshments will be served. ‘What Makes A Christian Home’ Is Theme Thursday “What Makes a Christian Home” was the topic used by Mrs. Elaine Hall and Mrs John Yeater as they presented the lesson to members of the Ladies Aid of the Milford Christian church last Thursday evening. The meeting had been opened by iou(-going president Mrs. C. J. Myers and the ladies sang “More Like the Master.” “My mother taught me . . .” was used for ansv. ering roll call and the missions report was given by Mrs. Claude Hamilton. Mrs. Roger Graff reported on the library. During the announcements the prayer circle date was set for November 3 in the home of Mrs. Carl Siwarer and the November meeting date was set for the 10th because of the Thanksgiving supper on the 20th. Election In an election of officers Mrs. Darrell Orn was named president with Mrs. Robert Spearman and Mrs. Leon Tucker serving as first and second vices. Mrs. Robert Auer will serve as secretary’ and Mrs. Stan Custer will be treasurer with Mrs. Lloyd Mynhier as assistant treasurer. Refreshments followed the program with Mrs. Lawrence Homan, Mrs. .Amos Orn and Mrs. Floyd Fuller serving as hostesses. Mrs. Evar Troup won the door prize.

Syracuse J. F. F. C. Club Meets The J. F. F. C. dub of Syracuse, formerly Newcomers, met Wednesday' evening in the office of the Budget Investment Company. There were nine members and two guests. Mrs. Ed Coy and Mrs. Leslie Grawcock, present. Following a pot luck dinner the president Mrs. Lucille Settlemeyer called the meeting to order. Secret pal names were drawn for the coming year. Mrs. Coy and Mrs. Donna Hostetler won the door prizes. Ebenezer Ladies Aid Meets Thursday The Ebenezer Ladies Aid of south of Syracuse met Thursday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Alma Orn. Syracuse. The 16 members answered roll call by telling of a Halloween experience or by reading or giving a poem on October. There were four guests, Mrs. Virgil Babcock, Mrs. Mdbum Rapp and Mrs. Court Slabaugh and Ronnie Pollock present. Mrs. Cressel Kitson. an inactive member, was also a visitor. Mrs. Tileries Doll, president, presided at the meeting. Mrs. Calvin Beck gave the devotions. Mrs. Om and the co-hostess. Mrs. Beck, served refreshments followed by a social hour. The November meeting will be in the tome of Mrs.. Edna Thomas of r 1 Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Peter A. Blue. Syracuse Lake, spent the week end in Chicago.

WRC To Hold Game Night The Women’s Relief Corps, John C. Adams, 278 of Syracuse, will hold a game night, November 7. There will be a short business meeting and inspection proceeding the games. The committee for calling members is Mrs. Estella Swartz and Mrs. Frank Bates. On the refreshment committee are Mrs. Swartz, Mrs. W. C. Grischke and Mrs. Herbert Blue. CROP Sets Goal Os SIO,OOO In County Crop has set a goal of SIO,OOO in Kosciusko county this year to help the 30,000 persons who die daily from food deficiency. Recently the county CROP officers met in the home of Russell Creighton to make plans for the coming drive. The kick-off dinner will be held Monday evening, Nov. 7, at 6:30 at the Westminster Hotel at Winona Lake. The dinner will be a smorgasbord sponsored by the county banks. Officers, wives and workers are invited. On Sunday, Nov. 13, churches in the county will observe CROP Sunday. Officers elected to serve are as follows: Board chairman, Russell Creighton: vice chairman, William Or; secretary, Don Frantz; treasurer, Ross Sittier; commodity manager, Joe Barrett; friendship acres chairman (North), Verl George; south, Gerald Clinker; publicity director, Raymond R. Goshen. A December 23 wedding isplanned. Miss Ridenoure graduated from the University of Florida where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She is employed by Fairfield Community schools as a kindergarten teacher at Millersburg. Mr. Ogle attended Albion college, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and is now attending the college of business, Indiana, university.
