REMEMBER . . . WHEN I IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE j ONE YEAR AGO The Turkey Creek Township Par-ent-Teachers Association annual Halloween carnival has been set for Saturday night, Oct. 16. The parade will. be Saturday, Oct. 30. Children in Syracuse have been given two days, Friday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Oct. 30, for “trick or treating 1 ’ this year. The God and Country of Boy Scouts j of America award was presented to John Yoder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Yoder, during the Sunday i morning service at the Syracuse Methodist church. Rev. August Lundquist made the presentation. The board of directors of Lakeland l Youth, Inc., held its monthly meeting October 29 in the Youth Center. Peter Manges and son Johnnie of r 1 Syracuse were admitted to the. Goshen hospital Monday for emergency treatment of burns sustained 1 when paint Mr. Manges was stirring with an electric apparatus exploded. They were later released. FIVE YEARS AGO Airman Charles E. Schlabach, stationed in Germany, has been promoted to airman first class. He is a graduate of Syracuse high school. Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Miller are the parents of a son bom October 8 in the Goshen hospital. The junior class of Syracuse high school will present “Dino”, a drama in three acts, on Friday. Oct. 20. at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Byron Patrick Connolly has re-en-listed in the U. S. Marines Corps for a period of four years. He. his wife, and 14-month-old son Michael left on Sunday for Camp Pendleton. Calif., where he will report October 15. Mrs. Hilary Bachman has announced her retirement as organist of Grace Lutheran church. Mrs. Bachman has been organist and choir director at the church for over 30 years. FIFTEEN YEARS AGO The Syracuse Church of the Brethren was the scene of the wedding Saturday afternoon of Miss Alto Joan Paugh of Syracuse and Bertram J. Tuttrup of Fenwood, Wis. Marine private first class Merton Bushong recently completed his initial training at San Diego. Calif. WCTU Convention Set For Oct. 25-27 At Winona Mrs. Cleo Parrish of Fountain City has announced the 92d annual convention of the Woman’s Christian Temoerance Union of Indiana will be held at the Free Methodist church in Winona Lake October 2527. The general theme will be “U---nited Progress — United Action". Wednesday evening, Oct. 26. the Svraeuse-Milford union will furnish special music. Singing will be the tidies trio composed of Mrs. Everett Tom. Jr., Mrs. Orville Kilmer and Mrs. Bill Speicher. Mrs. Glen Morehouse of r 1 Milford is president of the union. Mrs. Joe Barrett. Mrs. Rhonda Meek and Mrs. Rachel Morehead of the North Webster union will contribute music for the Tuesday afternoon program. Mrs. Lawrence Wilcoxson. North Webster, is president of the union. Posters will be on exhibit with a special exhibit of county posters. Methodist Trinity i Circle Meets The Syracuse Methodist church Trinity circle met Thursday in the home of Mrs. Eugene Yoder. A'l oclock dessert was served to 18 members and one guest, Mrs. Turner. Mrs. Vern Brinkman, leader, presided at the business session. Mrs. Arnold Pfingst gave the devotions. Self-denial envelopes were handed out to be returned October 20 at the WSCS Quiet Day at 12 o - clock.
