CAUGHT IN ACTION — The Milford and Syracuse football teams were caught in action Saturday during their game at Syracuse by M-J photographer Randy Coverstone. The ball carrier was tackled shorty after the photo was taken. • * • Milford Downs Syracuse 18-6 By Marcia Carpenter Despite the fact the World Series and professional football games were being televised, there were many Milford and Syracuse fans backing their junior high football teams on Saturday. Milford over-powered Syracuse, defeating the junior Jackets 18-6. The Trojan lines were just too big and strong for the scrappy Syracuse team and allowed the Jackets one touchdown scored by Russell Mikel in the first quarter. All three of the Milford touchdowns were scored by Roger Korenstra. The Lakeland fans have something to look forward to in anticipating that in the near future these three teams will make up the first football team for the new Wawasee high school. We should have a very good football team as long as the “spirit” stays with the players and the fans. Don’t forget Lakeland's last football game Saturday, Oct. 15, at 2 p. m, between North Webster and Milford at Milford. See you there! Ted Auer And Billie Gantz Win In Louie’s Open Ted Auer won first place in the men's division and Billie Gantz won first place in the ladies’ division of Louie’s Open Golf Tournament played recently at South Shore. Ray Lien. Puixlue university agricultural engineer, offers these suggestions: Drain the oil from the engine and replace it with new oil. running the engine for a few minutes for best circulation. Leave this new oil in all winter. Be sure all gas is drained from the- fuel tank and carburetor For engines using an oil-gas mixture, be sure fuel is drained. For this type of engine, remove the muffler and clean carbon from the ports. On either type engine, remove live spark plug and pour a tablespoon of oil in the hole. By turning the engine over a couple of times the cylinders and valves can be coated with oil. Be sure to replace the plug. Regular servicing of the * air cleaner should be done before your mower is put away for the winter. Lien suggests covering the exhaust pipe, possibly with a tin can. and giving the engine a general cleanup. The mower should also be cleaned, removing grass and sharpening or replacing the blade if necessary.
