Workman Calls Meeting For CC Candidates Syracuse high school coach Ken Workman has called a meeting of all cross country candidates. The meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Such things as schedule and practices will be discussed. RESULTS OF MILFORD LEAGUES; SET POTLUCK DATE Monday evening Campbell’s Sox defeated Sharp's Dodgers 18 to 7. Starting pitcher for Campbells was Jan Beer and for Sharps Dave Henson. Most valuable player for Campbells was Larry Kaiser and for Sharps Tom Spearman. Tuesday evening Barth Crop, defeated Syracuse Sox 15 to 1. Starting pitcher for Barth was Steve Wolferman. Most valuable player for Barth was Jim Plum. John Hamilton got a triple for Barth. Wednesday evening Bean’s Pure Oil defeated Syracuse Giants 20 to 3. Pitching for Bean's Pure Oil were Tom Beer and Kent Doty. The most valuable player for Bean's was Dop May. Wednesday evening Augsburger’s Cards defeated Baumgartner's Indians 17 to 8. Starting pitcher for Augsburgers was Don Beer and for Baumgartners Don Crume. Most valuable player for Augsburgers was Lark Ruch and for Baumgartners Darwin Freeman. Attention Attention all Little League and Pony League players, managers and sponsors: The first annual baseball picnic for the Little League and Pony League will be held Friday evening, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. The Milford fire station will be the site for the picnic. Awards and trophies will be passed out after the meal. .All players, managers and sponsors are urged to attend. LIGONIER DOWNED IN TOURNAMENT In the first game of the regional I-egion baseball tourney played at Riverside Park in Logansport South Bend post 357 defeated the boys from Ligonier 96. Jim Beights pitched for Ligon- j ier, allowing nine runs, 13 hits. I seven walks and striking out eight players. South Bend made three errore during the game. They scored j si* ot their nine runs in the first three innings and held Ligonier scoreless during that time Ligonier had six runs, 10 hits, five walks and struckout five times. The Ligonier boys committed six errors. Second Game In the second game the Lafayette post defeated the local boys 7-3. Steve Fisher started for Ligonier and pitched five innings. He allowed six runs. 10 hits, four walks and! struck out one. John Longenbaugh took over in the sixth and fetched three innings, j He allowed one run, three hits, four ! walks and struck out four. Steve Anspaugh pitched the ninth ! inning and allowed no runs, no hits and no walks. He struck out three batters. Ligonier had three runs, seven hits, three walks and struck out eight times. Ligonier committed five errors while Lafayette made two. New Salem News By MRS. Milford Legion In August Meeting The Ancil Geiger post 226 erf Milford held its monthly meeting Monday evening, Aug. 8, with 20 members present. Commander Dan Levernier announced thq- forthcoming events as follows: August 19 — Legion Auxiliary picnic at Waubee Lake. August 22-27 — Milford Festival days — game stand to be operated by combined efforts of the Legion arid Auxiliary. September 25 — Second district meeting to be held at Milford with the Ancil Geiger post as hosts. It was also announced that Herbert Felkner was appointed as a > second district vice commander at , the district meeting held August 7 at Lafayette. Legion ai res Felkner and Paul Becker reported on the Indiana state convention held recently at Indianapolis. They served as delegates. A membership drive is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 15, with all available members asked to meet at the post at 6:30. The Legion members extended congratulations to the auxiliary in winning first place with the choir and trio. SYRACUSE JUNIOR BASEBALL RESULTS Following are the standings of the various ball leagues in Syracuse. T-Ball League The Cards defeated the Cubs 25 to 17 in the T-ball league. Standings follow: Mets 2-0 Cards 2-1 Cubs 0-3 Minor League Pilcher’s tied with the Lions 10-10. The game went two extra innings, but was called because of darkness.
