RESULTS OF SYRACUSE JUNIOR LEAGUE BASEBALL The weekly results of Little League baseball at Syracuse have been announced and is as follows: Minor League In game; this week Pilcher’s defeated the Bank team 10-9 in a close game and Rotary defeated the Lions 10-5. Standings follow: Rotary 2-2 Pilcher’s 2-2 Bank 2-2 Lions 2-2 As can be easily seen the minor 1 league standings are tied four ways and should prove to make interesting games for th* remainder of the season. Major Leagues In major league play the Lions defeated the Bank 2-1 and Pilcher’s defeated the Rotary 7-3. Standings, which are somewhat tight. are as follows: Lions 4-2 Pilchers 4-2 Rotary 2-4 Bank 2-4 The Met-Cards T-Ball game that was rained out last Wednesday will be played Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 6 p.m. on the new diamond. Also on j the 17th the Sox and Giants will play at the athletic field at 6 p.m. LITTLE LEAGUE RESULTS AT MILFORD GIVEN Monday evening Augsburger’s Cards defeated Campbell's Sox 21 to 7. The starting pitcher for Augsburgers was Don Beer and for Campbells Larry Kaiser. The most valuable player for Augsburgers was Mike Smith and Steve Vanlaningham and for Campbells Mark Shearer. Mike Smith and Steve Vanlaningham both hit grand slam home runs. Pony League Tuesday evening Barth Corp, defeated Bean’s Pure Oil 7 to 6. The starting pitcher for. Barth was Steve Wolferman and for Bean's Pure Oil Kevin Dwyer. The most valuable players for Barth were Jim Plum. Tom Speicher and Gary Sorensen. The most valuable player for Bean’s Pure Oil was Tom Reed. Reed got two triples. Sunday afternoon the Leesburg Ponv League defeated Bean’s Pure Oil 12 to 4. The starting pitcher for Bean’s, Pure Oil was Tom Beer. The most | valuable players were Dana Haab and Don May. Both of these boys had two hits. MILFORD LIONS TO DONATE FOOTBALL | EQUIPMENT TO MHS Members of the Milford Lions club voted Monday evening to spend $450 on football equipment for the program to start in the Lakeland schools this fall. The equipment is to be purchased by the club and will be given to the Milford school. Life Guard D. G. Seely introduced Gary RingIler of Syracuse who has been hired by the club to serve as life guard lot the beach on Waubee lake for the [duration of the summer. The Lions club sold community .calendars for this purpose. It hopes to help the park board with such a , project. Speaker I Dr. John Baldwin, coowner of the Enchanted Hills Playhouse on Lake Wawasee, was guest speaker at the meeting. He is head of the dramatics department of Michigan State university. He also serves as producer and director at the playhouse and finds I time to do some acting during the His wife. Kay. serves as the playhouse business manager and is also an accomplished actress. I Dr. Baldwin told the Lions about producing a play and the work involved. During the business meeting members discussed plans for a fish fry to be held during the Chamber of Commerce-sponsored fair. The fry will be held on Friday evening, Aug. 36. with serving from 5 to 8 p. m. Ted Martindale was welcomed into the dub as a new member and guests were Duane Wiggs and Paul Estep. WRC MEETS MONDAY EVENING The John C. Adams, Women’s Relief Corps. 278 of Syracuse, met Monday evening for its regular meeting in the Legion hall. Mrs. Georgia Barter, president, presided at the business meeting. Mrs. Frank Bates, welfare chairman. gave the report on ill mem‘bers Mrs. EsteUa Swartz and Mrs. Edgar Kuhn. Mrs. Bates reported she had also called on Mrs. W r . C. Grischke and Mrs. James Isbell and had visited at the Prairie View nursing home Mrs Bates then asked if any of the members knew of a blood donor as one was needed to replace blood for a member. It is to be given to the Elkhart hospital blood bank. Uh? name of Mrs. Jean Rogers was given and Mrs. Rogers consented to donate the blood on ■ Saturday. Mrs. Mary Brown. Mrs. Clarence Snyder and Mrs Zerola Zook served refreshments to the 12 members . present. I Mrs. W. C. Grischke and Mrs. Bertha Nicolai were welcomed back after several months absence. Mrs. Grist hke has been ill and Mrs. iNicholai has been visiting at Fairfax. Va. The next meeting will be September 12. due to a holiday being the first Monday of the month Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Noel of Baltimore. Md., were last week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Xanders and Mr. and Mrs. Laucks Xanders of Syracuse Mrs. Nod is ithe daughter of the Laucks Xanderses of Warsaw.
MILFORD POLICE ARREST SIX Six persons were arrested recently by the Milford police. They arrested follow: Tim Sipress, 34, Claypool was stopped on July 7 and arrested for improper registration and for going 45mph in a 35 mph zone. Larry L. Parcell. 22, Goshen, w-as arrested chi July 9 for going 45mph in a 30mph zone. He was fined $22.25 by justice of the peace Harry Dale Doty. Eugenia Johnson. 58, r 1 Leesburg was arrested on July 22 for going 55mph in a 35mph zone. Jan P. Kizer, Milford, was arrested on July 24 for improper mufflers. Billy J. Bowens, Warsaw’, was arrested on July 24 for no drivers license in possession and for improper muffler. Sam Crider was arrested on July 25 for assault and battery. GREGWEISSERHONORED ON THIRD BIRTHDAY Greg Weisser, who celebrated his third birthday on August 1, was honored in the home erf his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weisser of Milford, on Sunday evening. Homemade ice cream and cake were enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Neal Cory, Denny and Dave, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Weisser, Phil and Steve, Miss Kristi Lichtenwalter, Dougie and Brad Weisser, all of Milford, and Miss Pam Shade of West Milton, Ohio. On Monday a party was held at Storyland Zoo in South Bend. A picnic lunch and. visiting the zoo were enjoyed by the following guests, Greg’s brothers Dougie and Brad, Dave Cory and Miss Pam Shade.
