Syracuse Defeats Mentone 10-8; Pierceton 12-1 Syracuse batters continued to hit the ball as they defeated Mentone l(kS and Pierceton 12-1. The Jackets are still in first place in league play with eight wins and one defeat. In the Mentone game Syracuse had 12 hits and scored in every inning except the fifth. Syracuse lead from the second inning on. Mentone kept in the game until the final out. They scored a run in the bottom Z>f the seventh inning and had the bases loaded before Rob Clevenger struck out Teel to end the game. Max Broekers was the winning pitcher, but needed help in the late innings. Steve Wagner came on in relief in the sixth inning and put out the fire. In the seventh Rob Clevenger came in and finished the game after Wagner walked two Mentone batters. Steve Wagner and Max Broekers hit home runs for Syracuse. Max had three hits. Steve Wagner had two hits. Rob Smith also had two hits—one was a bases loaded double to drive in three runs. Rex Bowser was the losing pitcher. In the Pierceton game. Syracuse broke open a pitching duel by scoring 8 runs in the fourth inning on 9 hits. The Jackets scored three more runs in the sixth inning on 3 hits. j Syracuse collected 16 hits in the con-1 test. Bob Pilcher. John Kramer.! Greg Smith. Mike Gordon, and Brad . Bauer each had two hits. Rob Clevencer was the winning pitcher. He allowed six hits and. struck out 11 batters. He had nearly perfect control and did not walk a hatter Dick Henson and Menzie pitched for Pierceton Thev struck out 6 batters and walked only three. League Results At Milford Given Tuesday evening Barth Corp, de- ' seated the Syracuse Giants 10 to 1. Starting pitcher for Barth was Steve Wolferman. Wolferman got a double and a triple. Wednesday evening Bean’s Pure Oil defeated Syracuse Sox 12 to 3. The starting pitcher for Bean’s Pure Oil was Kevin Dwyer. The most valuable player was Kent Doty. Don May got a triple. Augsburger’s Cards defeated Sharp’s Dodgers 22 to 8. The starting pitcher for Augsburgers was Mark Vanlaningham and for Sharps Tony Newman. The most valuable players for Augsburgers were Don Beer and Steve Vanlaningham and for Sharps Steve Pipenger. Thursday evening Campbell’s Sox defeated Baumgartner’s Indians 24 to 7. Starting pitcher for Campbells was Jan Beer and for Baumgartners Don Crume. The most was Larry Keiser and Mark Shearer. Dale Freeman was the most valuable player for Baumgartners. Sunday afternoon Barth Corp, defeated the Leesburg Pony League team 2 to 0. Starting pitcher for Barth Crop, was Steve Wolferman. Tht most valuable player for Barth was John Hamilton. Jim Plum got a double. Next Sunday, July 31, Bean’s Pure Oil will meet the Leesburg Pony League team at the Milford diamond. Game time is 2 p.m. Thursday evening. July 28. Leesburg Little League All-Stars will meet the Milford /Little League AllStars on the Milford diamond. Game time is 6:15 p.m. The Little League patrons have expressed their appreciation for the pump and pressure system donated by the Lions club. The diamond is now green.

SYRACUSE BABE RUTH LEAGUE DOWNS AVILLA 9-4 Syracuse had 10 hits and scored in every inning to defeat Avilla 9-4 for their fifth win of the season. Avilla had one big inning. They scored all of their runs in the third when Mike Byrd lost his control and walked four batters. Kevin Robie relieved Mike on the mound and stopped the rally by Avilla. Chuck Coburn and Dennis Harper carried big bats for Syracuse as they each had three hits. Chuck Coburn and Steve Tatman each hit a home run in the contest. RETURNS TO FORT KNOX Andrew Gilbert, son erf Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gilbert. Syracuse, spent a furlough at home Andy just completed basic training in the U. S. Army at Fort Knox. Ky. He returned Thursday to Fort Knox to attend school.

Miss Anna Lockwood And Rev. David Powers Wed Sunday At Zion Chapel
The Hudson Church of the United Brethren in Christ was the setting of the wedding Sunday at 2 p.m. of Miss Anna Rose Lockwood and Rev. David L. Powers, pastor of the Zion Chapel, Church of the United Brethren in Christ, south of Syracuse. . Rev. Willard Sanders of the Hudson church, district superintendent, performed the double ring ceremony in the presence of 200 guests. The parwits of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Powers of Waterloo and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Lockwood of r 2 Waterloo. Yellow and White Decor Yellow and white summer flowers decorated the altar. Mrs. Barry Rowe was organist and David Cliffe of Holt, Midi., soloist. He sang “The Voice That Breathed O’er Eden”, “So Send I You”, and a congregational hymn. “We Rest on Thee” was sung during the ceremony. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a peau de soie gown with a galloon lace trimmed train.. Her veil of bridal illusion was caught to a single white rose. She carried a Bible and a single yellow rose. Mrs. DeWayne Lockwood, Waterloo. was matron of honor. She was attired in a street length gown of yellow taffeta with bonded lace and wore short, yellow gloves. Her veil was caught to a single yellow rose and she carried a long stem white rose.
