Finalists Drop Jackets In Tourney On Friday
The Syracuse Yellow Jackets were downed by a powerful Columbia City team Friday night 68-39. The Jackets have been hit with disaster all year — they entered the sectional minus two of their starting players. John Wortinger and Rob Clevenger, and a substitute. Richard Bushong. All were off the squid because of disciplinary reasons. Jok'ui Longenbaugh led the Jackets in scoring 14 points. Milford Tops Larwill, Stopped By Pierceton
Milford downed Larwill 79-55 Wednesday night for a first round dumped by Pierceton 77-68 Friday to be eliminated. MILFORD-PIERCETON In the second round of the sectional tourney Friday night, the CUbs came on with their famous last ’'half surge and press tn take out a game Trojan team. 77 to 68. The first half was close all the way and the Cubs had but a one point lead at the half. In the third quarter Pierceton put on their press and hit 10 of 14 shots from the field, giving them a 10 point lead. The fourth quarter was played on even terms. Leesburg Bows To Warsaw Leesburg's powerful Blue Blazers were downed by a strong \\ arsaw team Thursday night in the final game of the first round of the sectional. The score: Warsaw 105 - Leesburg 61. It was lA'esburgs last game as a school as the students will attend Warsaw high school next year. The Blazers were out to win but the Tigers were too strong. Webster Bows To Pierceton In Tourney
North Webster went down at the hands of the Pierceton Cubs in the first game of the sectional tournament last Wednesday. The final score: Pierceton 64 - North Webster 57. The Cubs, slow # starting. had trouble moving toe ball and had a two point deficit at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter found both teams cold and not playing good ball. , In the second half Pierceton came to life, and working a part time press, hit much better while North Webter, having touble getting the ball to go through the hoop, fell behind by three points at the end of the third. In the fourth, the Trojans playing hard but still not hitting, found toe Cubs to be red hot as they poured in 10 out of 15 shots for a 67 per cent from the field. The Cubs had ball handling trouble but North Webster could not take advantage of the breaks and* the game went down to toe wire before toe Cits couki believe they had it won. North Webster’s Vonash had 17 points followed by Vanator with 13 and White with 10. 27, 39 and 64; North Webster 13, 28, 36 and 57. ELEMENTARY TOURNEY HELD AT SYRACUSE The team headed by captain Randy Graber and composed of fifth and sixth grade boys won the elementary basketball tournament at Syracuse this week. Other members of the winning team are Doyle Butler. Jeff Hughes, Clint Hursey. Dwight Dean, David Walley, Dan Mock and Ray Bechtold. Cheerleaders were Laurie Me Farland, Vicki Troyer, Colleen Coy and Amy Wellman.
