Leesburg And Milford Win; Syracuse And Webster Lose

Milford and Leesburg, both had a heavy schedule last week, playing both Friday and Saturday nights. Both the Trojans and the Blazers won both their games. Milford defeated New Paris 6550 on the Cubs hardwood on Friday and defeated South Whitley 56- j 53 on Saturday on the Syracuse court. ' ’ Leesburg traveled to Larwill on Friday and defeated the Trojans j 90-59 They were hosts to the Cubs from Pierceton on Saturday and defeated the visiting five 75-73. Leesburg is still undefeated in , seven starts and Milford has a 6-1 ' record. ■ i Syracuse, still unable to win. was defeated by Concord 78-53 on Friday. Leesburg - Pierceton In their closest game of the season Leesburg's Blue Blazers downed the Pierceton Cubs 75-73 on the Blazers’ home floor. Thi\ is the first time Leesburg has defeated Pierceton since 1955. It was a dose battle all the way with, Pierceton on top 18-15 at the first stop. By the half the Blazers had gaintxl the lead and held a niae point edge 38-27. At the third stanza slop. Leesburg led 56-51 and held the lead to win the game. North Webster - Wolf Lake The North Webster Trojans suffered two losses in one week when Wolf Lake took the Tuesday night game that was tied at half time and Akron walked away with a 12 point lead at the dose of Friday night's game. Scores by quarters for Tuesday night's game were 13-14 in favor of Wolf Lake at the first stop, tied at 36 all at half time and 50-56 with Wolf Lake again on top at the third stanza stop. I Syracuse - Concord By Kermit Welty Concord was able to deal the Yellow Jackets their sixth straight defeat of the season. The Minutemen jumped to a six point lead at i the end of the first quarter and in- J creased it to a 25 point lead at the end of the game 78 to 53. Concord; has a pretty tough team this year as they were also able to defeat Warsaw, Syracuse’s next opponent. Longenbaugh of Syracuse and J Bamck of Concord were tagh pouts I 1 men with 18 points apiece. The only other players in double figures were ail from Concord and were ' Bailey with 15. The Minutemen were hitting pret- ; ty good from the field with 48 per cent but at the foul line they ; weren’t hitting quite as good as they only hit 55 per cent. Syracuse however, was cold from both fix* field and the foul hne as they hit 33 per cent from the field and 50 | per cent from the foul line. Concord also won the B-team game and it was done by six points. At half-time Syracuse had a seven point lead but in the third quarter it was quickly evaporated. Three of the Syracuse plavers'fouled out, which greatly hurt the team. The first half was , very dose, but as usual the third quarter told the tale. The Pierceton five opened the second half by gaining a strong lead and never lost it. Tlk- fourth quarter scoring was fairly even, but Syracuse did not quite have die power to overtake the opponents. SYRACUSE DOWNED BY WARSAW The Syracuse freshman team lost its third basketball game Thursdayon the Warsaw court. The final score was 43 34 The action in the hrsi half was fairly even, but Syracuse fouls and mistakes in the third quarter led to the Syracuse downfall With about two minutes left in the game, Syracuse came within three points of Warsaw, but that was the closest the hosts would let them get. The high scorer of the game was Warsaw’s Vacarro with 17. The next game for the Syracuse freshman five will be Thursday, Dec. 9, when they will host Ligonier. Mr. Wilson is a patient in the hospital following a serious heart attack several weeks ago.
