Ralph McFadden Throws Hat In For Congress
Ralph G. McFadden, pastor of the Lafayette Church of the Brethren, today anonunced as a candidate for the Democratic Party’s Congressional nomination in the Second District McFadden, who is 32, made his formal announcement at a press conference and luncheon here Monday. More than 100 newsmen. Democratic party officials and supporters from throughout the Second District attended the announcement ceremonies. During the day, McFadden and his wife Barbara were scheduled to fly to several other cities within the district to meet newsmen, greet Democratic officials, and announce his candidacy. McFadden, of Scottish ancestry, is the first Democrat to anonunce as a candidate in the Second District. At his press conference here. Me Fadden said that he has traveled the Second District extensively and at present knows of no other contender for the Democratic nomination. He said he is entering the Congressional race because he is convinced the voters of this area share his concern for a whole range of problems which affect the District — problems which require the kind of imaginative and aggressive approach which has not been forthcoming from the present Congressional Representative. “The people of the Second District are industrious, they are positive in their attitudes and they are

He is a graduate of Elgin (Illinois) high school, and holds a B. A. degree from Manchester college, in Wabash county, and aB. D. degree, cum laude, from Bethany Theological Seminary. He also attended Christian Theoloigcal Seminary in Indianapolis. The father of two children, a son. Joel. 6. and a daughter, Jill. 4. Me Fadden has been active in Lafayette civic affairs. He was the first : chairman of the Greater Lafayette Human Relations Council, is a board member of the Family Service Agency, and was active in initiating a counseling service for teenagers held in detention in the Tippecanoe countv jail He also is active in the Har- ' rison Trails Boy Scout Council and the Lafayette Ministerial Associa- : tion. w f J

Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Lake of r 1 Larwill and r 1 Pierceton enjoyed a noon Thanksgiving day dinner with Mrs. Lake’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Marvel, with whom they reside, and in the afternoon went to Hicksville, 0., to dine with Mr. Lake’s family. This dinner was in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Warden and family. There were G 4 persons present with turkey, chicken, and ham as the main course. Mrs. Warden is Mr. Lake's sister.
