II Along Main Street — By JERI SEELY r •. A'few weeks ago I ran an item in i j this cffiumn about the several Mili 1 fords in the U. S. Since that time I ! Herbert Stump has brought to my | attention four other Milfords. There is a Milford in California, Kentucky. Missouri and Virginia besides the 17 that I mentioned be- |! fore. There is also a Milford Cen- < ter in Ohio and a Milford Square in Pennsylvania. ,1 I While I was busy with the writing of this column and other news items for this week’s paper it seemed as if almost everyone else in town was | busy getting ready for the Fall Festival. Chamber ot Commerce officials | and the town's merchants have I | gone all out to make this a very \ gay and happy week end for Milford. | By the looks of the “Beverly Hill- > billys’ truck located on Main street ( the other Saturday there are several items available for the White Elephant auction. If our memory serves us right , Myers Ford owns the truck. It was sold by them to Marion Deeter several years ago and then repurchased from Mr. Deeter about two years ago. Oh. speaking of the White Elephant l|l auction I hear they have a real I white elephant. Not the animal kind M i but a bathtub that the owner re- < ferred to as big enough for an elephant and it's white in color.

The M-J girls got new bowling shirts this year and for those of you who haven't seen them they are black and white and read (I mean red) all over. Real cute for a newspaper, we think! Did you see the beautiful rainbow in the north during Saturday’s rain storm? Marion Deeter did arid called me so I could see it too. While I’m on the subject of the ' weather did anyone see it snow l Saturday? I didn’t but heard that t a few flakes could be seen here and - there. It’s about that time of year. ' t FLOWER GARDEN HELP LAFAYETTE — Modernize your flower garden this fall. , Perennial flower gardens have j blossoms every year, of course, but wxMi’t go on indefinitely without care. New life and vigor, say Purdue university extension horticulturists, must be added from time to time. Here are some tips: First, take an inventory’. Decide which flowers are worth keeping and which need replacing. Plants in their prime, of course, | should be left alone. Those which appear to be suffering can be divid- . ed. Dig up clumps and save newer and healthier growth for replant- t ing. < Replacing can be especially pro- i ; fitable in the fall. All you need to ■ ;do is select new perennials, or if j ! you want something different, se- I ilect spring flowering bulbs. Be sure to plant the spring bulbs in groups : and near the front of your flower garden as they are low growing. Shrubs in the back of your flower ■garden are a modernizing touch you might consider.
