Bottoroff Promises Closer Controls Over Securities
John Bottoroff — Indiana's a 28-year-old secretary of state who promises to head the Democratic ticket in 1966 — told an audience of about 200 Democratic faithfuls last night that he planned a much tighter control of securities brokers in the state than has been the practice in the past. t
He spoke at the Westminster hotel at Winona Lake at a meeting sponsored by the Warsaw city Democratic committee. Promises Controls He said. “When I came to office we had two attorneys, two secretaries and two part time investigators to handle all securities investigations." Following the Dobich securities scandhls. I asked Governor Bramgin and the budget bureau for $33,000 to hire two public accountants and other assistance to clean up the securities mess 1 found when 1 came to office " . Bottonoft office is requiring all securities salesmen to take an examination. and “before the snow flies they will take a second exam." He said the Dobich scandal fleeced 579 .Hoosiers out of nearly $2.5 million dollars. Object of 'Smear* He said this was what the “smear” campaign against him in Indianapolis newspapers was all about. He said he intended to clean up the sectaities mess in Indiana, and these ; men have tried to make capital out of the fact that he has accepted campaign money for his 1966 campaign for re-election. He said Charles. Hendricks. now state chairman of the Republican party, also accepted campaign contributions when he was secretary of state, but nothing ever came of that.
