and leisure time activities show and will be held November 6-14 in the manufacturers building at the state fair srounds. Anyone interested.may call the office for more information. Milford police chief Ralph Gansert has received six thank you notes from the fifth grade students for the safety books he delievered to the Milford elementary school. Each year the Milford merchants sponsor the distributing of such books to fifth graders. Chief Gansert’s letters were from Timothy. Terry Allen, Kathy Richardson. Brad L. Booth. Tom Spearman and Blanca Lazano. One visitor to Our Town over the week end stated we had the most beautiful trees she had seen. Now, isn't that a nice compliment? This week — October 10-16 — is national Newspaper week and we just couldn't let it go by without a mention so we went to Webster to see what newspaper means. It is, "A publication regularly printed and distributed, usually daily or weekly, containing news, opinions, advertisements, and other items of general interest.” Now, that didn’t tell us much we didn’t already know did it? Friend husband and I were among the 100.001 plus persons attending

the Michigan-Michigan State football game at Ann Arbor, Mich., last Saturday. I don’t think Tve ever seen so many people in one place before. It was a good game but as usual it bad to rain. MILFORD-SYRACUSE WCTU MEETS The Milford - Syracuse chapter of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union met last Tuesday evening. Oct. 5. at the home of' the president. Mrs. Glen Morehouse. The meeting opened with praver bv Mrs. Phyllis Troup, this was followed by the devotions given by Mrs. S. A. Bauer. She talked on the parables of Jesus and read a poem “There Are Just Two Kinds Os People.” During the meeting a tape recording was played of Miss Ethel Waters, negro actress and singer, who appeared on the Billy Graham TV show recently. A memorial gift will be .given in honor of A. R. Hollar by the union. The birthday of Lydia Deardoff, Syracuse, who is a charter member of the group, was remembered with a card shower She w-as fM on Oct. 11. A card wws sent to Bonnie Rassi, former Milford resident who is in the Elkhart hospital. She has

a back injury as a result <rf a recent fall. s Membership It is now club memberdrip toe again and the local union is trying to be a Life Line union with the same number or mere members than they had last year. Last year there were 29 manbers. Anyone who is interested can become a member. Dues for women are a 51.50 per year and dues for men are SI.OO per year when they wish to be honorary’ members. New directors were appointed for the various .departments. Mrs. Henry Biller served as secretary for toe meeting and Mrs. S. G. Mordiouse was a guest. ANN KAISER ILLS BIRTHDAY PARTY Ann Kaiser was honored Wednesday, Oct. 6, on her eighth, birthday in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kaiser. Ann’s friends enjoyed singing songs together, playing games and competing in contests. The birthday table was centered with a lovely pink and white decorated cake topped with eight candles. -All of the guests received favors and refreshments were enjoyed. She received gifts from the following guests: Julie Method, Pam Sands. Christi Beer, Judy Snider, Peggy ’Hmmons, Beth Wolferman.

PRESIDENT The Hex Rural Home Demonstration club met Tuesday. Oct. 5. in the Hex Grange hall for is October meeting. Mrs. Edwin Eash. Elkhart county president and Mrs. Walter Lechlitner. county vice president were guests. Mrs. Merl Darr, president, presided and opened the meeting with the club creed. Mrs. John Emmert. Jr., gave the devotions using the musical reading “If Jesus Came To Your House.” Roll call was answered with a humorous quotation. Mrs. Carl Bender showed a film on vegetables for which she had given the lesson previously. Mrs. Arthur Shannon gave the health and safety’ remarks and Mrs. Robert Moser gave the lesson on “Advertising:’ The meeting closed with the dub prayer. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Oliver Hibschman and Mrs. Richard Workman. The November hostesses will be Mrs. Myrtle Robinson and Mrs. Tom Robinson.

Wednesday Afternoon Cub Meets The Wednesday Afternoon club of Syracuse met October 6 in Miss Katherine Rothenburgsr’s home on | Lake Papakeechie. Mrs. William T. Jones. Jr., president, presided at toe business meeting. Roll call was answered by 20 members. The response was “a dish my mother made,” with many j old time dishes being mentioned. Chicken and dumplings or chicken and noodles seemed to be the favorite. Mrs. Joe Rapp, program chairman, called on Mrs. Arnold Pfingst Ito give the program. Mrs. Pfingst gave a very interesting talk on Grandma’s kitchen. She started her I talk by telling about a pioneer’s kitchen and went on to tell about her own grandmother’s kitchen on an Indiana farm. The hostess served coffee and candies during the social hour. The next meeting will be October 20 in the home of Mrs. George Kleopfer. Milford Locals Chester Overlese of Elkhart attended services at the Milford Methodist church on Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bushong and Johnny and Mrs. Mary Heber, all of Waubee lake, attended toe wedding of Miss Carla Earnhart and Donald J. Myers in the Presbyterian church at Goshen on Saturday evening. HIT AND RUN • j ACCIDENT A hit and run accident was reported to toe Milford police department on Saturday. A car reportedly I hit the left front door of a 1956 Chevrolet owned by Dan Levernier ■ of Milford. The car was sitting on Main street in front of the Levernierhome and was reportedly hit sometime Friday night or early Saturday morning.
