Syracuse Library Board Has Meeting Members of the Syracuse library beard met Wednesday, Sept. 8, to consider the 1966 budget. No taxpayers were present to object and the proposed budget of $20,939.10 ! was approved. Wednesday Afternoon Club Holds Box Luncheon Mrs. Ray Jones was hostess to members of the Wednesday Afternoon club on September 8. Mrs. William T. Jones, Jr., president, was chairman of the party assist- . ed by Mrs. Robert Mauzy, Mrs. } George Kleopfer, Mrs. . Joe Rapp. Mrs. Milton Brice, Mrs. Arnold I Pfingsf. Mrs. Ray Jones and Miss j Katherine. Rothenberger. To greet the guests, the commit- . tee dressed in old-fashioned outfits, in keeping with the theme for the day. Mrs. Ray Jones furnished all the gowns and accessories for committee members, with the exception of the one worn by Miss Rothenberger. Mrs. Jones chose a beautiful ball gown of lavender batten i lace. The fried chicken lunch was served in decorated boxes to 16 members and two guests, Mrs. A. W.- Sutton of Indianapolis and Mrs. Dale LeCount of Birmingham, Ala. Program The program started with a poem written by Mrs. Milton Brice followed by group singing of old songs. Mrs. Ray Jones read excerpts of old family letters, some written in 1813. showed a number of old quilts, | one dating back 150 years. She. also* showed a number of children’s cloth-I es from years back, old books and i other items of interest. The afternoon ended with Mrs. I LeCount playing some beautiful selections on the organ. Ligonier Squad Car Demolished In Sunday Chase Ligonier’s only squad car, a 1964 PlyTnouth, was completely demolished and city police officer Richard Shell, 38, injured, after a chase early Sunday morning, involving the squad car and a car containing five . Ligonier minof-s. Driver of the car ,was =a soldier home on leave, i The chase began at the intersecition of U. S. 6 and 33 at the city limits south of Ligonier. The car cut ; through the Texaco filling station jlot at a high rate of speed, struck a road sign on the west side and bounced over to the east berm to strike a fence. ! Shell managed to get in front of the car and flash his red light. However, the auto would not stop, but went on past the police car and Shell proceeded to chase them, managing to block . them northwest of Churubusco They put their car in reverse and took off backward. At a curve in Whitley county on I taken to the. Goshen hospital by the curve and traveled 37 feet off the road striking a telephone pole. Shell walked to the nearest farm i home and was brought to the Ligonier police post by Paul and Helen Myers on r 1 Churubusco. He was speeds up to 110 mph. At the time ambulance where he was treated for bruises and cuts and a torn ligament in his left ankle and foot. r The chase covered 28 miles with speeds u pto 110 mph.
