Helvey, who replaced William E. Pearl on the board, is the rep-1 resentative from Tippecanoe township. The position of vice president was left vacant when Air. Pearl resigned. Board members held a short discussion on modern math, which is being uswl throughout the corporation this year. They were told that while it was a little hard to make the transition it would work; out in a few weeks. Treasurers Appointed Treaursers for the extra ciirrcula funds in the several schools were appointed. In each case the school secretary will serve as treasurer. The secretaries are Beverly Al. Airs. Betty Dust was present and questioned the board on the - difference in the book rental prices for the Alilford and- Syracuse schools as published in the paper prior to the opening of school. The Syracuse students were all charged a uniform price while Alilfoi-d’students have a .different rental rate in each grade. She was told it was a dis- : ference in supplies furnished. Some books are bought at Milford instead of being rented. The dictionary was used as an example. The reason for the uniform price at Syracuse is the result of the decision to do so the first year books were rented. ’ Airs. Dust also questioned the 75 cent locker fee charged at the Syracuse school; She was told it was for the lock. When she enquired why it wasn't a deposit, returned at the end of the year superintendent Lewis S. Immel, stated he thought it was. .He will investigate and report to Airs. Dust.’ Test Schedule A test schedule was presented to board members for recommendation. The high school testing program sheet lists several tests that are given to students from the seventh ■ grade through the senior year and the elementary schedule presented a list of testing programs for the kindergarten through sixth grade student.

Special entry to the first grade was discussed by board members and a policy passed. . — The policy contains -six Steps and was passed because of the recognization that, some few’ children possess the ability to do first grade work at an earlier age than the age of six which is the age specified by the Lakeland \ corporation for the beginning of first grade work.
