Indiana University Classes To Begin September 17 BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The doors to Indiana university classrooms hardly will be closed from the current twoweek summer postsession before final preparations get underway to receive new students arriving for the fall semester orientation program. The post session, which concludes the three-part summer school that began June 8 at I. U., ends Aug. 28. and incoming freshmen and transfer students move in Sept. 13 for four days of adjustment to the physical and academic environments of the university. Classes for all students begin Sept. 17. Academic orientation; which includes testing, counseling and registration for those unable to attend the summer pre-registration program, is directed by the junior (freshman' division. Student and staff leaders in the residence hall centers will introduce the new students to their physical surroundings, acquaint them with student government, and offer suggestions to ease the transition from high school to college. Activities the first two days are directed primarily at those not preregistering during the summer. The. program broadens the third day to

Stahr is planned Sept. 16 to officially welcome the entire “Class of ‘69.’’ In addition to orientation and the opening of school, other dates appearing on the university calendar for 1965-66 include: Thanksgiving vacation, Nov. 24-29; Christmas vocation, Dec. 18-Jan. 3; eiui of first semester, Jan. 28; second semester orientation and registration. Feb. 1-5; beginning of classes. Feb. 7; spring recess, March 26-April 4: end of semester, June 7; commencement, June 13. SEVERAL SHORT-TIME LAYOFFS LAST WEEK Several new short-time layoffs began last week and seven offices of the Indiana Employment Security Division reported increases in initial - unemployment insurance claims. Lewis F. Nicolini, Division director, said, however, that decreases in 21 other offices offset almost 60 per cent of the increases. Similar ups and downs were evident in the number of continued claims, Mr. Nicolini said. In 18 offices the figures were higher but the rest Reported fewer claims from people out of work a week or more. Recalls to work were in progress, including one of 1,300 employees in 3 northern Indiana plant. Altogetlwr 23.603 claims were filed, compared to 21,195 the week before.
