VARIANCE GRANTED BY ZONING BOARD A varianc'e permitting, construction of a four-unit apartment dwelling was granted by the board of zoning appeals of the town of Syra- \ special meeting was called to hear:* the petition of Francis and Johnie Oswalt for a variance in the classification of the zoning of a lake front area on the east side of Like Wawasee adjacent to the fish hatchery grounds. Weeds, Tree Limbs Topic Before Syracuse Board
The Syracuse town board of trustees met Tuesday evening in the town' hall and heard complaints from citizens of the town on weeds, and tree limbs. Everett Ketering called the board’s attention to weeds growing at Medusa street and the railroad yards. He had a picture showing the weeds. Clerk - treasurer Walter Calnon stated the railroad had cut the weeds in the past and no doubt would cut them again. The clerk also stated the police chief, Dan Ganger, was printing letters to be sent to property owners-requesting j

Calvary EUB Church Is Setting For Martin-Michael Nuptial Rites
Miss Marilyn Kay Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delos Martin of r 3 Syracuse, became the bride of Thomas Patrick Michael, son of • Mr. and Mrs. Charles Michael of 1 r 2 Syracuse, Saturday. The * double-ring ceremony was performed before the altar of the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church at Syracuse, decorated with White gladioli, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon by Rev. Kennard Robinson in witness erf 150 guests. Given in marriage by her parents. the bride wore a floor length gown of silk organza with a Bateau neckline, elbow length sleeves, and a controlled skirt flowing to a chapel train in the back. Appliques of rosepoint lace trimmed in crystals accented the bodice and front of the gown and continued to the train: Her veil of imported French .illusion was caught to an open lace and tiile pillbox covered with orange blossoms and crystals. Her bouquet was a cascade of white carnations and white roses. W'alt Hagerdon, street commissioner, told him the towru employees have been cutting limbs in alleys, but some of the trees are on properties and the owners would have to cut the limbs. Mr. Hughes also stated there were three dead maple trees on Portland street. They are over the sidewalk and are dangerous. Mrs. Betty Dust thanked the board for the speedy action taken on getting fill dirt to the spillway from the pumping station, the last of the old millrace. Robert Insley was present and asked for some further protection at the Carroll, street — Frazier avenue, crossing. Because Frazier avenue is now a throujgh street some motorists do not slow down at the yield signs for Carroll street. Police chief Ganger stated his department will patrol the area to check on motorists.
Watermelon Following the regular business the clerk-treasurer read a letter from the Wawasee Area Jaycees, asking permission to hold a watermelon .feed on Saturday night in front of the National 5 and 10 cent store. Because of the east end of Main street being blocked by the rides and traffic using the alley at the side of the National store the Jaycees were given permission to hold the feed in front. of Chet Reid’s Car Parts store.
