Rev and Mrs.- Martin and family spent the night at the home of a neighbor Crist Trover. The explosion knocked the east wall completely out of the home, and debris about the yard.. The south wall was knocked out and the second floor dropped down on one corner of the home and the roof was damaged The. other' walls were badly damaged? i The two-story frame home, of Rev. and Mrs. Jason Martin and family on r 2, east of Syracuse, was practically demolished by an explosion of propane gas Wednesday evening, July 21. Stephen and his sister, Judith, age three, were injured. Their brothers, Philip, age six, and Michael, age four, along with the mother, escaped injurj”. Rev. Martin was not at home at the time of the explosion. Stephen suffered extensive burns on his legs and Judith was pinned under a food freezer which was upset by the force of the explosion. Judith and Philip were on the back porch. Philip’s hair was singed by the flash fire. Rev. Martin has served as pastor of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel, a Mennonite mission church on the east side of Lake Wawasee. and has accepted the call to serve at a church near South Bend. The family now plans to move to South Bend immediately. 1
