now advance to the Indiana Regional contest in Fort Wayne on May 8. This is the fourth try at the championship for Margie. Her teacher is Mrs. Janet Harshbarger and her principal is Carl Sands. Margie is 13 years old. the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Merkle of r 2 Claypool and is a top ranking student in her class. She is greatly interest.d in mathematics and social studies. Whitko superintendent Delbert Hatton had planned on being at the contest, but was unable to attend. Ligonier News By ROSE CL NNINGH.AM Ligonier Tornado Relief Fund Reaches Goal A city-wide fund drive last week to assist the Shipshewana area has gone beyond the goal of $6,000 that townspeople were striving for. The amount collected was $6,475. All money contributed was turned over to the Shipshewana Disaster Area Committee for distribution and was to aid the area in any way that it saw fit. Spring Concert Set For May 4 The junior and senior bands of Ligonier high school will present a spring concert entitled ‘‘Music Magic”, Tuesday evening, May 4. They w ill be assisted by the girls’ choir. Closing the concert will be a performance of “The Battle Hymn of, the Republic”, featuring a 120-voice choir accompanied by members of the symphonic band. ROTARY CLUB MEETS MONDAY The Rotary club had as its> guests Monday evening at the Crossroads restaurant, the LaGrange and Albion clubs. j Hugh P. McMinn, Kendallville, gave an illustrated talk on, “Berlin and the Wall". I Mr. McMinn was graduated from , Purdue university, served six years in the U. S. Army in Japan. Korea, and Germany, and worked on army documentaries including the series,"The Big Picture”.
