For instance, the buyer of an automatic washing machine is often willing to pay more than $25 to a local dealer than she would pay for a similar machine offered by a mail order company. This $5 charge is usually passed on to the patient, but no charge is ever made for the blood it self. If, however. blood is collected by the administering hospital which must process and prepare it for usf, then the hospital must charge for these services, but again not for the blood itself.
