S? -OHLI J Methodists of the community will ■be interested in the open house at the Syracuse Methodist parsonage Sunday from 2:30 to sp. m. We’ve had a “sneak preview”, and think Rev. August Lundquist and his charming wife and four children have a. fine, fine home there. Payment of the parsonage has come from the Thrift Shop proceeds, operated in Syracuse by women of the church. Besides making money die women are rendering a fine service to the community with their shop. The public should know more about this, since it makes a real good market place for serviceable clothing that has been outgrown. Ann Nyikos—we call her our favorite religious artist—is busy again painting store windows wiJi Christmas card portraits. Her first in Syracuse was al Auer’s service station and Budget Investments. Others will be coming up. Word of Ann’s talent has spread to other communities. She’s done windows as far away as Pierceton, she states. It’s a thrill to watch her. Final touches are being put on the Syracuse library addition. You can look for a showing, perhaps an open house, at a later date. Library board desenes a big hand for seeing this project through. It is a welcomed and much needed addition. r Turkey Creek jp Christian Koher, in cooperation with the local constabulary’, is getting tough with juvenile beer drinkers. Look for more rough treatment, beys, if it keeps up. Charles Garner, principal at Leesburg, is an unsung member of the Lakeland school system, partly because he has charge of the system’s smallest school and par> ly because his plant is removed from the superintendent’s office and the main heartbeat of the system. But here’s one we shouldn’t undersell. He desenes the praise of the system. His friends will quickly tell you Chas, is capable, efficient, gets the job done with minimum excitement and fuss. And he sure knows how to get along with people. Our hat tips to brother Chas. Fred Elstrod has himself a cozy little office in rear of ■ Country Corners Gift Shop. Done by wifie Emily, Fred smilingly takes a bow when told how nice it ist i Businessmen in the Lakeland area, watching cash register tallies over recent years, note that Christmas business is getting bigger and bigger with each passing year. There’s more unity among Lakeland merchants. They are beginning to get the feel of belonging to a unique organization, called the Lakeland area, as apart from several individual small towns. Commerce between the Lakekmd towns has grown, primarily since the school consolidation has taken place. Leon Vance is temporary manager of Pickwick Theater in Syracuse. Story that Kip Sullivan and Bill Pearl were going to manage the theater didn’t prove out in fact. Vance owns WaWa Theater with Jack Stoelting, and will hold down the Pickwick until WaWa opens in the summer. Theater was managed by the late Bill Buster most successfully. FAMOUS SAYINGS DEPARTMENT: The original Poor Richard said: “Most people return small favours, acknowledge middling ones, and repay great ones with ingratitude”. Did you notice new sign up at Dick Atkinson’s Standard Station on south Huntington? ' Jean Rogers states UF is still SSO. I 80 short of its goal. ■ A confab at Tom Socks early this week is a scene that will be repeated many times before New Year’s Eve when holiday ball is to come off. Big plans should make for a big party. While national bowling is off a little this year, things seem to be perkin’ right along at Wawasee Bowl as A this season’s play is well under way. Ford dealer Chuck Myers and the Mrs. and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Morganthaler, Jr., plan to leave right after first of year for two weeks near Pompano Beach, Fla. SOLOMON CREEK CHURCH TO HAVE MISSIONARY SPEAKER Rev. A. J. Faust, one of the senior missionaries from Zinna, Nigeria, West Africa will be the speaker at the Solomon Creek EUB church, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and learn first-hand ° information concerning the mission work on i that field. ’ -e Lt. and Mrs. Kenneth Stump r., and three children of Abilene, Tex., spent the holiday weekend with their parents, JMr. and Mrs. Clavton. Syracuse, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Stump, Nappanee. Lt. Stunp is stationed at Dyess I AFB.
