SYRACUSE BOYS COMPLETE BASIC AT GREAT LAKES GREAT DAKES, ILL —Steven L. Hoover. 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Hoover of r 4, Syracuse, and James A. Sawyer, 18, son of 718 east Pittsburgh, Syracuse, recently completed basic training at tlie Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, 111. ' The nine-week training includes naval orientation, history and organization seamanship, ordnance and gunnery, military drill, first aid and survival. During the training recruits re- ! ceive tests and interviews which ■determine teir future assignments in the Navy. I’pon completing the ‘ program they are assigned to service schools for technical training
or to ships and stations for on-the-job training in a Navy rating specialty. Naval training produces the power in seapower by supplying personnel to man the ships, planes and shore station of today’s Navy. Revival Services Begin Sunday At Baptist Church The Syracuse Baptist church. announces an evangelistic crusade which will begin Sunday night, Sept. 27. and continue each evening thru Oct. 4. Services are at 7:30 each evening. \ ... . Speaking at each service will be Don Camp, pastor of the Grace Baptist church at Anderson. Before entering the pastorate, Mr. Camp "as an evangelist for several years. The Grace Baptist church, which is his first pastorate, has seen remarkable growth during his three years of ministry, with over 350 professions of faith. , Pastor Robert Mundy extends a cordial invitation to the public to all services. Waubee Grange Elects Officers The Waubee Grange at Milford met in regular session for the September meeting with Ray Bray acting as master. Mrs. Ruth Miller gave the year’s financial report of her home ecomomcs committee and also announced the need of ladies to meet at the home of Mrs. Uoyd Felkner to work on the quilt now under construction. UNITED TELEPHONE TO CONSTRUCT NEW CROMWELL BLDG. The United- Telephone Company. Iric., has scheduled a new 26 by 32 foot building at the comer of Orange and Olive streets in Cromwell to be built in the near future. Another major improvement in the Cromwell service will be a change in equipment to constitute a. change in all Cromwell customers’ telephone numbers. The change will effect only the last four numbers, the present prefix “856” will remain the same. On January 18. 1965, United Telephone crews will begin the installation of the new equipment, the estimated cost of . this project will be in excess of $75,000. NO INJURIES IN CRASH NEAR SYRACUSE An auto driven by Helen Gilbert of Monroeville was hit from behind by a car driven by Jon Sroufe of North Webster at 10:55 a m. Thursday, Sept. 17, just south of the Syracuse city limits. The Gilbert car was damaged approximately S6O and the Sroufe auto $250, according to investigating officer Gerald Waikel, of the state police department. Neither driver was injured. MINOR ACCIDENT IN MILFORD A minor accident happened at 4:35 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, on south Main street in Milford. The accident took place when Mary L. Culver of r 1 North Webster pulled out of a (hive way and hit the car driven by David A. Hartter of Milford. Mrs. Culver was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way. Milford chief of police Clifford Pierson was the investigating offiI cer.
