LAKELAND TEACHERS HOLD DINNER MEETING James Kline of North Webster served as program chairman Tuesday night for the annual teachers dinner meeting of the Lakeland school corporation which was held at the M and M restaurant at North Webster. An informal punch hour preceded the dinner. Guest speaker for the evening was Mary Jane Sellers of Rochester. She used as her subject, "Gossamer Wings.” The North Webster swing choir sang four songs under direction of James Turner. Carla Ryan and the North Webster quartet sang one special song for the occasion. Lewis S. Immel, superintendent of schools and the Lakeland school board were presented and new teachers introduced. 'Hie first week of school is always hectic and 1 think we're all glad it’s over. We . have two new teachers at Milford high school this ybar. They are Mr. Aballi. who teaches Spanish. and Mr. Mattingly, who is an English teacher. Welcome to M. H.S.! There's really not much news yet. We haven’t had any class meetings to elect grade reporters. I hope by next week I’ll have more news. Lakeland Area Plans Bridge-A-Rama; Proceeds To Lakeland Youth Center ■ ’ -- - - >
A Bridge-A-Rama is being considered for the Lakeland area, using the same general rules as has been the custom in neighboring towns. Although there is no sponsoring organization it has been suggested the proceeds over and above the prize money be given to the Laker land Youth Center. ( Play will start on Oct. 15 and run through April ' 15. There will be ten playing periods, one every two weeks, the match being played in the home of one of the teams. ' No games will be played in De- j cember. due to holiday activities. Two players enter as a team and remain as a team for the whole tournament. The games are played in the homes of either of the teams and will be played at a tirft? selected by the two teams involved. A team will act as l»st team five times and will be responsible for scheduling die match. Twenty hand of rubber bridge will be played and ' one,- bids must be played. Were will be some good players ■ entered and, some not-so-good players, but luck plays just as import- , ant a part a skill. This tournament is for anyone in Syracuse 1 ! who wants to have fun playing: bridge, playing with friends and i' meeting . n<ew ones. - Each game will be set up by the, host team with a designated op- I posing team <afternoon or evening ; at the convenience of all l -anytime ' during or before playing period, i, Scores will be turned in promptly ! at the end of each period to avoid ; any possible confusion.
