| Tribute To Mermaid Festival , We of The Mail-Journal dedicate with pride this issue of our newsI paper to the annual Mermaid Festival at North Webster. Each year at this time the Festival takes off aj gain with more crowds, more activities. more interest and more pomp than the preceding year. Yet each year it seems to come off more smoothly with fewer last minute problems than the year before. Many, many North Webster people devote months of their time to the success of this undertaking. It must seem to them that the one year’s festivities are barely finished when it is time to begin the groundwork for the next year's} With a list of old stand-bys that seem to do the major portion of the planning there is a long and detailed list of persons that offer their untiring efforts in the final few months and weeks of Festival preparations to give it its final polish. These persons also desene a round of applause. We are sure that the surrounding communities must be as proud of the annual North Webster Mer.maid Festival as is North Webster and they must also be envious of the community spirit and effort that goes into its making and success. . The North Webster Lions club is the motivating force, that sponsors ch year. Along with help of the local merchants they personally take care of all details. The merchants’ support can be witnessed through the advertisements I present in this issue. With the frustrations, worries, and j efforts in mind of the many North . Webster persons who have planned every event, contacted all the necessary persons, hung the decorations, solicited for donations, arranged for , the trophies and prizes, built the j bleachers and must clean up the whole deal in the end; with these I persons in mind, we say “hats off" i to the 19th annual Mermaid Festival. ! May "America’s greatest small town j festival” continue to live and grow. RICHARD L. BOGGS, LEESBURG, HAS PLEDGED Richard L. The schedule includes: Private Lives - July 1-5 Peter ’Pan - July 8-12 The Desk Set - July 15-19 My Fair Lady - July 22-26 “Lullaby" - July 29-Aug. 2 Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - Aug. 5-9 The Best Man - Aug. 12-16 The Hasty Heart - Aug. 19-23 Sunday In New York - Aug. 26-30 Mary, Man- - Sept. 1-6 “Private Lives” will present an hilarious entanglement of marital relationships, some last minute reshuffling of partners, the breaking of phonograph records over heads, and some fast-paced, very funny scenes. For the first time, playgoers will be able to see the play- i house owners playing the four lead-' ing roles in a play. Director of Private' Lives, Jon Baisch, and his wife Phyl, have just arrived in Indiana after a busy winter theatre season in New Y’ork. Last January, Mr. Baisch produced and directed an original off-Broadway musical comedy entitled “Will file Mail Train Run Tonight?” This musical was given a pre-New York tryout two summers ago at Enchanted Hills Playhouse where local audiences loved it. In New York, Phyl Baisch starred as Carlotta Cortez, the same part, she playedk in the local production. The New Y’ork critics gave the musical all kinds of reviews from raves to pans and said some very nice things about die Baisches. Although i. did not have a long run, it played long enough to return part of the investors’ money and to bring the Baisches into the New York scene once more. Since then, Phyl has starred in a revival of "Third Best Sport’’ and Jon has directed productions of ‘ Carousel'' and “My Sister Eileen” The Baldwins spent the winter in East Lansing, Mich., where John j completed work at Michigan State university for his doctorate in theatre. He also worked for the Provost of the university revising the extra-curricular campus activities program.. Next fall John will return to Michigan State university as business manager of the University Tlieatre. He will also direct university theatre productions and teach courses in acting and production. Kay, a trained and experienced teacher, was employed j by the Lansing Public Schools. Her big moment was the production of a student operetta, employing over one hundred students and full orchestra, which she staged and directed. The fifth role in Private Lives will be played by Dee Kreglow who is returning to Enchanted Hills Playhouse after a year’s absence. Miss Kreglow is a resident of . New Y’ork City.
