Trojans Lose To Mentone Friday Glenn Kammerer By JOSEPH JESSOP If any one didn't go to the Mentone-Milford clash last Friday night I surely don’t know who it was. Mentone beat Claypool {(county champs) the Friday be- ; fore by 2 points. This meant the Bulldogs had the county horseshoe. The Trojans wanted that horseshoe, and if *they got it it would be for the first time in two years. They didn’t get it. You ; have to beat the team that has the shoe before you can take it ‘ away from them. Since the county tourney the Trojans have looked mighty good by beating Wawaka, and Leesburg. by margins. But we must look side too. Neith|er school has a very good team 4 this year and with the scoring punch we have naturally clob- : ered them. Now it,' was time for the Tro- ; jans to settle down and play some good all-round basketball. Now was the time to play some good defense, and keep Mentone’s score down so we could beat them with our supposedly good offense And so the game got under way with neither team scoring at first. Both teams scored a free throw, and then Mentone's Parker cut loose on a shooting barage that we just couldn’t stop. When the buzzer ended the first period of plaj’ Mentone was on top 18-13. Milford let at the end of |he 2nd quarter by one point 33-32 and at three-quarter time Mentone was back in the lead 50-43. The game ended with the Bulldogs taking the honors 76-68. The box scores are as follows: MENTONE (76) — Zolman 794, Nelson 752. Warren 401, J. Whetstone 324, Parker 254, M. Whetstone 101. East 155, Murcia 001. Totals 25-26-22. MILFORD (68) — Dewart 403, D. Groves 335, Baker 323, Mishler 001, M. Groves 414, Stump 305, Zimmerman 373, M. Beer 010, Holderread 542. Totals 25-18-26.

Trojans Down Millersburg In I 71-68 Thriller By JOSEPH JESSOP e The Milford Trojans wog£ their ir 13th game of the season last night t (Wednesday) by defeating fourth .ranking Millersburg of Elkhart county. The Trojans now boost a * j 2-1 record against Elkhart county e j teams by defeating Bristol and _ Millersburg. The only defeat they t suffered was from New’ Paris, who leads their county with a 141 ’ 2 record. 3! Our Trojans were never headed i as we lead by quarter scores of 213 '15; 36-31, 56-49 and 71-68. As you t : can see by the quarter scores, it i was a close game. The Millers nevj er gave up, and as I predicted the * Trojans had their troubles. They 1 were ahead by one point with 58 ■[seconds, but Millersburg had the 5 ball. They passed it around for a- ’ while, trying to get that one good 1 shot to win the game. That good > shot never came as senior Mike ■ Zimmerman tied up one of the Millersburg players for a jump ball. Mike got the tip, and from him si it 'Went to Holderread. Tom drib- - bled to the side where he immedI lately called time out with two * j seconds to go. After the time out i Zimmerman was fouled and he ! sank both shots to give his team a t 3 point win. t Holderread was high point man i for Milford with 21 points, fol- , 1' A.JI by Marion Groves with 19. Marion’s brother Dick came up . with 13 for the night. The game was played at Millersburg. -
