A man once said “If you don’t like Indiana weather, just stick around and it will soon change”. This sure was true .Monday. The day with snow — then rain.. and then sunshine — what riext ? Shopping Centers continue to spring up on the fringe areas of all towns and cities (Syracuse included). Soon there will be very little business (if any) in the downtown districts. For years the farmer has come to town to shop. Now* the city dweller must go to the country! That’s progress, I guess! o Wawasee Village will soon gain another business. Thornburg's Drug Store hopes to be operating in their new location in the very near future. Carroll Koble is a mar of many jobs. We hear his latest job (not’to mention being a postal clerk) is baby sitting and cooking. Mrs. Koble recently i 4 went to work at Syracuse Rubber which created this new task for Carroll. He is known in many circles as the “can-opener kid”. The Newcomers chib had a i “come as you are party” the other night The unfortunate members were notified by phone late at night or early in the morning. It’s amazing to see what the attire of some of our local ladies are at that time of day. Everything from flannel night gowns with bobby sox to blue jtans and sweat shirts. Note to Jean Rodgers: Don’t bid so vigoursly at a white elephant sale, especially when the one whom you are bidding against is your boss’ wife. Seems a local preacher picked up a paper bag that didn’t belong to him In one of the downtown stores. He walked two blocks down the street before noticing that it wasn’t his. He at once returned it to the store and a good laugh was had when the contents was found to be two paper cups of coffee. Pete and Jack may not have enjoyed their daily coffee break if it had not been for the honesty of Rev. Wilmer J. Frederick. Perhaps it is better for Col. John Glenn to race for the U. S. Senate rather than the moon. With his experience, maybe he , could Jget some of our lawmakers off their big launching pads and into orbit. However, some of our Congressmen are already in orbit. U'hey’ve been going round and rohnd for years and end up right back where they started. Seeing the fishermen’s ice houses on Syracuse lake, a newcomer remarked “That shore is a long way to a restroom and if the lake weren’t frozen, a feller just couldn’t make it”. SYRACUSE CRAFT CLUB MEETS The Syracuse Crafts club met Monday night, Jan. 20, in the home of Mrs. Arnold A. Pfingst. many clubs have one or more members who take organs to homes and hospitals regularly. The visiting club group includes the organ player, one or more members who sing, and others who' go along to talk with shut-ins and give them news. The melodies requested are usually those everyone knows. They’re easy, to play on the Hammond organ, and easy to sing. Patients who can will want to join in the singing. This type of activity is very worthwhile, for while most shutins today have radio or television orUroth to bring them news of tiie world, they miss the family and- community events which are really important to them. If you do adopt a public service project like this, the patients you call on will be pleased, and members of your club, who participate will find that their lives nave been enriched.
