Jackets Drop Concord For First Win The Syracuse Yellow jackets won its first game of the young season by defeating the Concord Minutemen 53-50. This was the first time in Syracuse’s history that the Concord team has not won. Syracuse, paced by 18 points from junior forward Larry Jones, started off with a bang by drawing 16 fouls from Concord in the first half. By the end of the game four | men from Concord had fouled" out, one had four fouls, and two had three fouls against them. The game began very slowly with Syracuse in the lead most of the first quarter by a small margin. At the end of the quarter the score was Syracuse 11 and Concord 8. Syracuse cooled off in the second quarter and only scored 8 points ,to Concords 15. The third quarter is the best third quarter Syracuse has played this year. Syracuse gained 3 points. Tom Kramer’s fast, break mid way through the quarter was just what j Syracuse needed to win. John Longenbaugh’s free throw with one second left iced the game. Score By Quarters: Syracuse 11 19 38 53 Concord 8 23 39 50 Trojan Teamwork Wins Over Sidney By JOSEPH JESSOP Larwill will undoubtedly have a new set of nets next week as Milford scorched the baskets for 97 points. It was teamwork all the way Saturday night. Tom Holderread was the leader with, 30 points as Milford won its fourth game, and smothered the Wildcats of Sidney, 97 to 66. Marion Groves took 15 rebounds off the boards. The ball would then be thrown to McClintic or Zimmerman, and then to Tom Holderread for two points. Everyone on the team saw action and everybody scored. Before the varsity game I happened to hear a Sidney player say, “Yes they really got beat by New Paris last night,” and his final words were: “We should beat them by 20 points.” This uninformed player should have looked at New Paris’s record. New Paris had won six straight when they invaded Goshen. Goshen beat them, but it took two overtimes to do it. That's the kind of team we played last Friday. I believe that Sidney player words! “Offense is our most important product.” This phrasq was extremely true against Sidney, but we should also take a look at our “new” defense. The Trojans held the Wildcats to just 66 points! This was done by holding downtwo of the county’s leading scorers: Walther and Whitaker. The Trojans deserve a. good word for this kind of ball. There is going to be a good game at Silver Lake Friday night. We hope everyone will come and see the action. As usual I will stick with Milford. The team made me lose a prediction against New Paris, but from now on I will be a bit more careful. Let's make it five boys! .!

Milford Loses Third To New Paris By JOSEPH JESSOP Milford lost its third game in a row Friday night to New Paris. Many fails were discouraged as it seemed that none could hit the basket. Tom Holderread got 12 points and many fans were dismayed as he continually missed the basket. Tom is the team’s high point man, and he is also one of the best defensive men in the county. But in the last two games the number of baskets he has made compared to the number of shots he has shot, he has not been very outstanding. This proves one thing: we should not depend upon one man! Z Jack McClintic played a very short time, but he made two points and played one of the best games of his basketball career. On three occasions he had a chance to make baskets, but in the true form of the “team” player he passed off to one of the other men for an

easy lay-up. This is the brand of ball we like to see!

Mike Zimmerman, captain of the Trojans, deserves a round of applause. Mike scored 22 points and as usual was the spark plug of our team. The first half was a thriller as the Trojans stayed right with New Paris. It was 15 to 19 at the end of the first quarter, with the Cubs leading. But that score didn’t last long as Verl Baker popped one in for a 21-21 tie. The Cubs came right back and at the end of the first half it was New Paris ahead 38 to 26. Marion Groves played his usual steady game in pulling down ten rebounds. You could easily tell when he -was not on the floor. BOX SCORES: MILFORD (75) — Mishler 211, M.
