REMEMBER . WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO The temperature was below zero in Syracuse Thursday morning. Fort Wayne reported seven below. The Syracuse Methodist church choir presented a Christmas cantata by Van Deusman Thompson, “The Rose of Christmas” on Tuesday evening, Dec. 18, at 8 p. m. The second annual ball sponsored by the Syracuse-Wa-wasee chamber of commerce was Aeld Saturday, Dec. 22, from 9 p. m. to 1 a. m. at Hoosier Skateland. The Syracuse Yellow jackets not only lost the ball game to Concord but also lost their starting center, Jack Zimmerman, who hurt his ankle in the second quarter. Jack will be out of the ■ game this week end. ' - Schools will close in the Lakeland Community area Dec. 21 and reconvene Wednesday, Jan. 2. FIVE YEARS AGO Members of the Syracuse Calvary EUB church voted to relocate the church. The board of trustee members were instructed to purchase property located along highway 13 south of Syracuse. Mrs. Guy Rang/Mrs. Leo Kowallik, Miss Pat Hummel, Miss 'Bonnie Brouwek and Miss Donna Moots attended a Delta Kappa Ga,mma meeting in Bremen on Dec. 4. ./ TEN YEARS AGO The outstanding citizen of Syracuse for 1953 will be chosen it was announced at the regular meeting of the chamber of commerce and will be made public at the February meeting. The Wawasee case was the scene of the Christmas dinner-party meeting of the Syracuse Business and Professional Women’s club on Tuesday night. MARY ZIMMERMAN HONORED AT BRIDAL SHOWER Miss Mary Zimmerman of Fort Wayne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Zimmerman, of r 1 Milford, was guest of honor at a bridal shower held in the home of Mrs. Levi Beer last Friday evening. The guest of hondr, -who had been presented a red and white carnation corsage, found her many gifts amid decorations following the Christ mas theme. She was assisted by Miss Joan Streitmatter in opening the gifts. At the . close of the evening refreshments of cherry delight, nuts, and coffee were served to 50 guests. Those attending the shower from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gerber, Mrs. Raymond Klopfenstein, and Miss Susie Lanz, all of Paulding, 0., and Jack Gerber .of Fort Wayne. Miss Zimmerman and Jack Gerber will be married on Sunday,. Dec. 22, in the Apostolic Christian church at Milford. GALLOWAY FARM AT CROMWELL PURCHASED The farm of the late Glen Galloway, SW of Cromwell, was purchased recently by Bill Hursey of Carmel, Ind. This announcement came from Mr. Hursey, who is a former Cromwell man. He intends to open a barber shop in Cromwell and will move with his family on the former berry farm and nursery after the first of the year.
