Waubee Grange Has Booster Night Program A potluck supper preceded the Booster Night program given last Thursday evening at the Waubee Grange hall. Fifteen officers were jat their stations for the meeting I opened by the Master Raymond ! Pinkerton. ; Salute to the flag was followed by singing Happy Birthday to Mrs. Herman Miller whose birthi day was that day. Lecturer Mrs. - Ray Bray was in charge of the j program, using "The Grange Is Marching On" as the opening song with Mrs. Don Ahrns as pianist. Secretary, Mrs. Helene Faulkner, gave “Facts About the Grange.” Jimmy Felkner played two ukelele numbers and Mrs. J Bray read “America Is A Beauti- | ful Word”. A piano solo was played by Kristi Lichtenwalter after which Mrs. Miller gave a resume of the year’s work done by the home economic committee. “The Business of Friendship” was given by Mrs.. Bray. The group enjoyed the pictures and comments of Fred Johnson, concerning the European tour he and his wife made. Guests included the Pomona Master and Pomona home economic chairman, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Trader, and Mr. and Mrs. Clem Beehler of the New Tamarack [ Grange of near South Bend. The next meeting will be No- - vember 14. .
This election, being the first in our community for a five-man board, who will rule on items concerning our community, will direct the clerk-treasurer on items to be purchased. We are sure our candidate can bring harmony into town board meetings. For when the roll call is made that must be our aim. SYRACUSE CRAFT CLUB MAKES CHRISTMAS TREES The Syracuse Craft club was entertained Monday evening, Oct. 28 at the home of Mrs. Ruth Rapp. A dessert was served at 6:30. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Herschel G. Leatherman, ■ vice president, conducted a short I business meeting. The lesson was “Decorating of Christmas Trees.” The members used trees which has been cut from plywoood- and covered with pop bottle caps, then sprayed j white, gold and silver to achieve ; very colorful results. The next meeting will be with I Mrs. William E. Long, on Monday, Nov. 11. Christian Science Bible Lesson For Sunday Is ‘Everlasting Punishment’ The Golden Text at all Christian Science services next Sunday will be this verse from Isaiah (45:17): “Israel shall be saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.” The Bible Lesson is entitled “Everlasting Punishment,” and includes also these lines from the ; Christian Science textbook: “We 1 acknowledge God’s forgiveness of | sin in the destruction of sin and | the spiritual understanding that I casts out evil as unreal.”
SYRACUSE TOT SWALLOWS 35 aspirin TABLETS Karv McKibben, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Jim McKibben of Syracuse, who was to have been the flower girl at the FirestoneLundy wedding, swallowed 35 aspirins during the evening as preparations were being made for the wedding. Rev. McKibben called a physican and upon his advice took the little girl to the Goshen General hospital. She was later released. The aspirins were in children’s dosage. PRIMARY MOTHERS CLUB HALLOWEEN PARTY OCTOBER 21 The Primary Mothers club of Syracuse held a Halloween party Monday evening, Oct. 21, at the Scout cabin. Each member came costumed and masked. Prizes were won.by Mrs. Douglas Jernigari and Mrs. Keith Herbison. Games in keeping with Halloween were the evenings entertainment. The business meeting was in charge of the president, Mrs. John Krohi. Mrs. Herbison was elected program chairman. Mrs. Rollin Cutter won the door prize. The hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Andy Hoffer, Mrs. Rollin Cutter and Mrs. Gary Meek. The next meeting will be November 4 at the home of Mrs. Cutter. RUSHVILLE WOMEN VISIT BRANCH OFFICE Mrs. Wilma Wainwright and Mrs. Lydia Neal of the Budget Investment home office at Rushville visited the Syracuse office Thursday, Oct. 24. Mrs. Jean Rogers, cashier at Budget, showed the ladies around the town and visited the shops. They were luncheon guests of i Budget manager, William Kessel, at Petro’s in Warsaw. MRS. NELSON MILES HURT IN FALL Mrs. Nelson Miles suffered a broken and dislocated shoulder on Tuesday evening at a North Webster restaurant where she fell. A group of ladies was having dinner and Mrs. Miles slipped on a 1 rug, causing the injury. She was I taken to an Elkhart hospital.

BIRTHDAY CANASTA CLUB MEETS , Mrs. James Barnes and Mrs. Aileen Poe entertained the members of the Birthday Canasta club Tuesday evening in the Barnes home in Mishawaka. Since there was no birthday during the month a jewelry exchange was enjoyed. Refreshments of pumpkin pie. j ice cream topped with witches and cats and coffee were served.
