Marcus White Heads Whitko Interim School Board

An organizational meeting of the newly-formed Metropolitan School District composed of Jackson, Monroe and Washington townships in Kosciusko county and Richland and Cleveland townships in Whitley county was held on the afternoon of Thursday, June 13, in the corporation’s lawyer’s office in Warsaw.

The; name “Whitko” has and hereafter will be called Metropolitan school district. Name Officers Officers for the school board •were named as follows:

been chosen for the district that when referring to the Marcus White, Washington township, president Bernard Miller, Richland township, vice president Donald Brown, Cleveland township, secretary Raymond Gall, Jackson township, treasurer \ Other members of the board are Claud Stahl, Fred Carlin, Alton Boggs, and Robert English. These will serve until May, 1964, when a board will be elected. A general discussion of the functions of the board was held. As this kind of organization is new to most of the members it will be some time before many of the details can be smoothed out and the board functioning properly. The board determined to accept immediate written applications from those persons interested and feeling themselves qualified for the position of superintendent of the new school district.

The new Whitko School District was formed as a result of an election on June 11 when voters expressed themselves very forcibly as being in favor of the organization. The plan had been proposed by officials of the five townships after the idea had been presented to them by Raymond Gall. Mr. Gall deserves much credit for his trying to resolve the difficulties of the schools in this district. He was and is a member of the county school reorganization of Kosciusko county and is trustee of Jackson township.

Miss Shirley Ann Silvers And Jay Royal Kline, Jr. Wed

Christ Temple church in South Bend was the scene Saturday of the marriage of Miss Shirley Ann Silvers and Jay Royal Kline, Jr., both of South Bend., The couple was married in a two o’clock double ring ceremony performed by Rev. Carl Ballestero, pastor of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Lee W. Silvers of 24514 Cleveland toad, South .Bend, are the parents of the bride. Barents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Jay Royal Kline of 511 Columbia street, South Bend, formerly of Syracuse. James Wyant, vocalist, and Mrs. Wyant, organist, provided the nuptial music in the church which was decorated with palms, candelabras and fireside baskets of white and lavender gladioli and pompons. -White satin bows marked the pews along the bridal aisle. Gown of Chantilly Lace A gown of Chantilly lace and nylon tulle over taffeta was worn by the bride who was given in marriage by her father. The basque bodice had long tapered sleeves and a bateau neckline appliqued with jeweled lace flower motifs. The bouffant skirt was caught with lace roses. Tiers of lace ruffles in back cascaded into a chapel train. A double crown of lace accented with tiny pearls and crystals held the bride’s bouffant elbow-length veil of silk illusion. She carried a cascade bouquet of white roses with Frenched mums, rose leaves arid white net. Miss Mary Jane Liszewski of South Bend was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Sharlene Silvers, sisters of the bride; Miss Ruth Mahler of South Bend; and Mrs. Raymond Miller, Elkhart. Douglas Kline, cousin of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were David Kline, brother of the bridegroorii; Gayle Korn of Buchanan, cousin of the bride; Raymond Miller, Elkhart; and Franklin Stone of South Bend. ; Dresses of Attendants Miss Liszewski wore a lavender dress of silk organza having a lace bodice topped with a bolero jacket of lace. Bands of lace were caught by butterfly bows to accent the bouffant floor-length skirt. Dresses of the same style were worn by the bridesmaids and

were in a mint green color. Each wore a horsehair braid crown of flowers with pearls and tiny nose veils. The maid of honor carried a basket with a cascade of lavender, green and white pompons with lily of the valley. The bridesmaids each carried a basket'with a cascade of lavender, green and white pompons. Candy Michele Barnaby of South Bend was the flower girl and Jackie Lee Rorie of Osceola, the ring bearer. The flower girl wore a lavender dress of nylon organdy made with a long full skirt, scoop neckline and elbow length sleeves. Lavender velvet with white Sweetheart roses formed her headpiece. She carried a small white basket of pink petals. Wedding Reception The wedding reception was held immediately after the ceremony in the fellowship hall of the church where fireside baskets were filled with summer flowers. Following a trip to Michigan the couple will reside at 51487 U. S. 31, South Bend. Mrs. Kline is a graduate of Washington high school in South Bend, and Mr. Kline attended Brackenridge high school in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. James Gilbert of Syracuse and Rev. and Mrs. J. L. Kline of North Webster are grandparents of the bridegroom.

Head Coach At Larwill Resigns LARWILL — The resignation of Vernon Zurcher, head coach at the high school here since 1958, was announced by Richland township trustee Bernard Miller. Zurcher has accepted a position as head baseball and basketball coach at Adams Central, a consolidated school with an enrollment of 400 located at Monroe in Adams county. In five seasons as Larwill’s head basketball, baseball and track coach he has had an enviable record and is well qualified for his new position. A replacement for Zurcher in the Larwill school awaits the decision of the Whitko school board.

James Gullett On Dean's List James Gullet, who is a political science major at Indiana University was honored recently for his scholastic achievements last year. Since he has maintained a straight > “A” average during the past year also, he is looking forward to like honors at the 1964 ceremonies. James is the son of Mrs. Charles Menzie, Jr., and will reside this summer in North Webster where he will be working with Arthur Baugher on construction. MRS. E. VANATOR, MAE ROBERTS NEW DISTRICT OFFICERS Members of the Herbert Kuhn unit of the American Legion Auxiliary who attended the district meeting at Lake Village on Wednesday were: Mrs. Ermal Vanator, Mrs. John Roberts. Mrs. Jacob Krouse, Mrs. Elinore Enyeart and Mrs. Eva Brenner. Mrs. Roberts was elected to the executive board and Mrs. Vanator was elected chaplain. REV. CHAS. JOHNSON NEW METHODIST MINISTER HERE Rev. Charles Johnson has been appointed to the pastorate of the North Webster Methodist church. He has recently moved his family here from New Castle where he was pastor of the Trinity Methodist church. The Johnsons have two sons: Wayne Charles is 21 months old and Corey Alan is three weeks old. COMMUNITY NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Donald Richards entertained Mr. and Mrs. David Richards and sons, David, Terry, Donald and Larry at dinner Sunday in honor of Larry’s first birthday. Mrs. Paul Baugher of North Webster and Mrs. Marie Henemyer of Huntington left Monday to attend the Church of God camp meeting at Anderson. Mr. Baugher plans to join them for the week end sessions. Mr. and Mrs. Burdette (Tony) Strombeck are proud parents of a daughter, Lisa Jean, born at Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw on Saturday morning, June 15. The baby weighed six pounds, twelve ounces. Mrs. Strombeck and baby returned home Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. William Darr and family of Ottowa, 111., and Mrs. Ernest Cremeens of Leesburg were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Cremeens and family at a cookout Saturday night. Glen White is reported recovering satisfactorily at his home after surgery at Goshen- General hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Orva Miller and daughter Sally and Rev. and Mrs. J. L. Kline attended the wedding of Miss Shirley Silvers of South Bend to J. Royal Kline, Jr., also of South Bend at Christ’s Temple church Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Rachel Morehead plans to leave Monday morning with her daughter, Mrs. David Krall, and family of Columbia City for a oneweek visit with relatives in Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Karns of Remington visited friends "and relatives in this vicinity Sunday afternoon; Mrs. Eli Shock is undergoing observation at Whitley County hospital. Miss Margaret Black was released from Murphy Medical Center this week. Mrs. William Tooley of Warsaw is receiving medical treatment at Murphy Medical Center. She is a former North Webster resident.

What Are The Graduates Doing? Have you been wondering what the 1963 Milford high school graduates have been doing now that school is out ? The whereabouts of those whom we were able to contact is as followsNancy Ahrns, who plans to enter Ball State this fall, and Sally Berkeypile, who will enter medical school, are both relaxing this summer. There are two bankers, in the group. Sue Beer is working at the First National bank in Warsaw and Janice Wise is employed at the Nappanee State Bank in Nappanee. • Vicki Fuller is the athletic one of the class. She is in charge of Milford’s Girls’ club this summer. Judy Kern is a little on the athletic side. She is working at the Wawasee Bowl. Back To School Three members of the class couldn’t wait until fall to get back i into class . rooms. Faye Sholtey and Connie Motts have entered Porter Business college in Indianapolis, and Joe Judkins is enrolled at Tri-State in Angola. Dean Baker and Garry Miller are working at C. S. Myers, Nilah Jonasch at Da-Lite Screen, Jim Sholtey at IX-L, Phil Graff at Brock’s, Ronn Brown at Klink’s, and Jan Widup at his father’s station. Carolyn Crowl is working at The May Stores, Gloria Sierk at Marsh’s, Jane Mock at Thomases’ 5c to $1 store, and Gloria Slabaugh will help her sister, Mrs. John Yeater, with the Yeaters’ new baby. Sherri Bleile, Dianne Crafton , and Becky Baker have not definite plans. Lester Krull has no plans for now but is going to college this ’ fall. We were unable to contact Donna Yoder, Jerry Miller, Mark Chambers, John Gerber, and Ed Leamon. Brunch-Reception To Honor New Minister A carry-in lunch-reception is being planned for 6 p. m. Sunday, June 23, in the honor of Rev. and Mrs. Richard Sumner, new Milford Methodist minister, and Dan Kasambira, the evening’s speaker. Mr. Kasambira is attending school in the United States under Bishop Raines’ Operation Education Plan. He is a native of Southern Rhodesia, Africa. He will give a short talk and hold discussion after the lunch. HUSBAND-WIFE AIR FORCE TEAM SCULTHORPE RAF STATION, England — The husband-wife team of Airman First Class George A. Knight of Palestine. 111., and his wife, Airman Third Class Elizabeth A. Knight of Fort Wayne, Ind., have arrived here for duty with the 7375th Combat Support Group. He is an aircraft mechanic while his wife works at the dispensary as an X-ray technician. Their as - signment here marks the first time an Air Force husband and wife team has served at this United States Air Forces in Europe installation. Mrs. Knight before her marriage was Elizabeth A. Eleeke of r 2 Syracuse, Ind. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy D. Knight of 208 east LaMotte St., Palestine.
