An Indiana Auction An Indiana auction is A place I like to be Where bidding is brisk And “who’ll say three.” Antiques raise my pulse Just about any time Especially a Seth Thomas When I hear it chime. I’ve known bidders to buy ■ A chest of silverware And later to discover Something really rare. My dad once bought a box And gave it to my mother. He thought it a treasure, She said, "What, another?” i On one occasion I recall My bid faded like a ghost But with some after-trading I got what I wanted most. My old Mount Vernon plate Is one buy I truly prize It isn’t very large I know But it’s a gem despite size. Those Lincoln books are great, We like them every one. I bought from the high bidder And they’re going to our son. When I go to an auction And chat with all my neighbors, It’s fun to be in the bidding Just relaxing from my labours. Lawrence W.
