25 YEARS AGO, MAY 19, 1938 Hard frosts were experienced in this community on Wednesday and Thursday nights of last week which resulted in considerable damage to gardens and fruits. Mr. and Mrs. Worth Anglin of Bourbon were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Phend on Sunday. Mrs.' Joseph Sunthimer was hostess to her Thursday afternoon bridge club last week and had as other guests. Mrs. Vern Wysong and Mrs. Albert Graff. Dr. and Mrs. Vern Stockberger, Joseph Judkins, arid Milton Hiatt attended the organ recital given by Dean Fossler at the Goshen high school auditorium Thursday night. Donald DeFries and Miss Althamae Love attended the tulip festival at Holland, Mich., Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Klinger have beautified the exterior of their, country home with a new coat of paint. The home of Mrs. Emily Lentz! on north Main “street was the scene of a pretty spring wedding at 5 p. m. Saturday, .May 14, when her daughter, Miss Marybelle, became the bride of Burris N. Sharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Sharp. A 4-H Boys club was organized Friday night at a special meeting held here with 26 present and much interest shown by the boys. Harry Michael was elected president; Ray Buhrt, vice president; Junior Tusing, secretary; and Donald Davidsen, treasurer. 35 YEARS AGO, MAY 17, 1928 The country home of Hugh Bushong, SE of Milford, was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning. Milford has the distinction of having four graduates from Indiana universities this spring: Miss Hazel Brittsan from DePauw university, Frank Scott, Raymond Dausman and Noah Kirkendoffer from Purdue university. Mrs. Glenn Young will spend the week , end in Gary with her daughter, Miss Helen. Tennis courts are being built by N. D. Myers, Warren and Noble Fisher, and Harry Phend. Mr. and Mrs. George Ogden returned Sunday from a trip down near Madison where they own a 200-acre stock farm. The Ancil Geiger post met Monday evening to further plans for Memorial day. After the meeting they went to the Comus theatre to see Buck Jones in the “War Horse” arid “Jake the Plumber.” On Sunday one of Charley Bird’s Black Minorca hens laid an egg that weighed six ounces and was round as a ball. Mrs. Ellen Miller was a visitor 'at the Dr, Krider home in Goshen Friday. Streets in the business section were newly marked for auto parking last week. 40 YEARS AGO, MAY 17, 1923 * Miss Pauline Smith, daughter of Mrs. Margaret Smith of Milford, and William J. Barclay of Jackson, Mich., were married Saturday afternoon at Goshen. Lydia Oster, 69, widow of the late John Oster, died Wednesday, May 9, at the’home of her daughter, Mrs. William Tusing, of near Hastings. Mrs. Irvin Troup of Milford is also a daughter of the deceased. ■ F. W. Lott is having the exterior of * his residence on north Main street repainted. system. Mrs. Wilbur Neer and children of Warsaw visited in the home of her mother, Mrs. Maude Oswalt, over Sunday. A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Leatherman on Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Butt of Elkhart were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eston Butt and family. W. F. May and George Archer have accepted employment at South Bend. They are working in a freight house. The marriage of Angelo R. Barnard, son of editor and Mrs. W. B. Barnard of Millersburg, and Miss Laveta Lutes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lutes of NE of Milford, took place Thursday at St. Joseph, Mich. The Misses Thehna and Mabel Miller were visitors over Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Schuder and family. 50 YEARS AGO, MAY 22, 1913 A license can now be purchased for one dollar that will give you the privilege either to fish or hunt, and you are not wholly confined to your county but may fish and hunt in the counties joining the one that issued the license. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Geyer went to Goshen Friday morning to do some shopping. Miss Jessie Dalton, who has been staying with Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Shaffer, went to Dowagiac, Mich., to visit for a week or ten days. Mrs. Wesley Webster of near Winona Lake came to Milford Friday morning to visit her brother, W. O. Davisson, whose wife is quite sick. A little daughter was born May 12 to Mr. and Mrs. Orxille Silveus on route 3 out of Milford. Mrs. M. B. Groves attended a house warming with her sister. Mrs. Ellen Miller, at Elkhart on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Auer, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miller, and Miss Cecil Miller was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Perry Hoover on Sunday. Nancy, wife of Perry Miller, died at their home three miles SW of Gravelton Monday. The deceased is a daughter of trustee David Nickler of Jefferson township. Steele Re-Elected ITA President George A. Steele, chairman of the board of United Telephone Company of Indiana, Inc., Warsaw, this week was re-elected to serve as president of the Indiana Telephone Association for the year 1963-64. He was re-elected by fellow board meiribers of the organization in the closing session of the association’s 43d annual convention held in Indianapolis on May 7-9. Clark Mull, manager of Knightstown Telephone Company, was reelected first vice president of the Indiana Telephone Association for the coming year, and LaMar Stoops, vice president of the Nappanee Telephone Company, was elected second vice president. The Indiana Telephone Association is an organization of independent telephone companies created to achieve greater co-operation among telephone companies and otherwise enhance and maintain high standards of telephone service throughout Indiana.
