Holiday Activities In Syracuse Churches
Liisted below are the various Syracuse area church events scheduled for the Christmas and New Year holiday season. Grace Lutheran Church The Lutheran Church Women will meet at the home of Pastor and Mrs. Carl H. Satre Tuesday evening, Dee. 18, at 8 p. m. The Christmas lesson will be given by Miss Lucille Bushong. On Saturday, Dec. 22, the Luther chorus will have a caroling supper at 4:30 p. m. in Luther hall. The Children’s Carol Service will be , held, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 23, at 3 o’clock in the church sanctuary. In the evening at 7 o’clock, Sunday, Dec. 23, the Luther League caroling party will be held in the Luther hall. The Christmas Eve Service and Cantata will be held beginning at 11 p. m. Dec. 24. The choir will i present “The Song of Christmas” I by Fred Waring. “Christ the Lord is Born” is the sermon topic. A New Year’s Eve service will be held at 11 p. m. Monday, Dec. I 31. “Alpha and Omega” is the title of the sermon. Wawasee Lakeside Chapel Sunday evening, Dec. 16, at 7:30 will be music night to practice Christmas caroling for the next Sunday night. The Christmas program will be I held Sunday morning, Dec. 23, ' during the Sunday school hour. I On Dec. 23 at 7:30 p. m. there will be a Christmas caroling program for the entire church. A candlelight service will be held Sunday evening, Dec. 30, at 7:30 o’clock in the evening. Baptist Church The regular Baptist Youth (RBY) Christmas party will be held Tuesday evening, Dec. 18, at 7 o’clock at the church.
On Sunday evening, Dec. 23, the RBY will present a Christmas program at the church at 7. The Christmas Day worship service will be held from 9 to 10 a. m. with the sermon topic being “The Last Noel.” A New Year’s Eve “Watch Night” will be held from 7:30 to midnight. Part I will be devotions; part II will be a period of fellowship and refreshments will be served; and part 111 is to be a special midnight service and communion. This is to be the congregation’s first communion. Church of the Brethren The Good Cheer class social will be held tonight (Thursday) and will be a combination Christmas and Thanksgiving party. Time: 7:30. On Dec. 15, Saturday, Willing Workers class will have a ham supper and social at the church at 6:30.
Women’s 'Fellowship meeting will be held Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 at the church. Mrs. Warren Benson and Mrs. Leonard Barnhart will present a program of slides and meditation entitled “God’s Beautiful World.” The Church of God The children’s Christmas prosrram will be held Sunday morning, Dec. 23, at 10 oclock. On'the evening of Dec. 23 a service of carols and candles will be held at 7 o’clock. “The Christmas Story in Candlelight Carols” will be presented Sunday evening, Dec. 30, at 7 by the choir. This cantata is by Don Hustad. Guest singers Christian Koher of the Syracuse Methodist church, a bass, and Lyle Kell of the Calvary EUB church, a tenor, will participate in the Cantata, part II will be a perioid of fellowThe Christmas program will be held on December the 20th at the church beginning at 7:30. Special songs, recitations and readings win be given by the diffeenjt classes. As a special highlight Santa will be on hand with treats. Calvary EUB Church A Christmas Cantata entitled, "Bom A King,” is to be presented Sunday evening, Dec. 16, at 7:30. It is to be under the direction of Howard Lininger with guest soloists Gloria Culp, George Culp, and Roger Vorholtzer, all of Fort Wayne. Questors class will hold a Christmas party Saturday evening at 7:30. On Thursday evening, Dec. 20, at 7:30, the annual children and youth’s program will be held at the church. A candlelight carol sing for the entire congregation will be held Sunday, Dec. 23, at 7:30. On Dec. 31 a New Year’s Eve watch night service sponsored by the men’s organization will be held.
The snow, a big change from the 68 degree temperatures enjoyed by the area the earlier part of last week, came just in time to put everyone in a Christmas mood.

Lloyd Harley of Leesburg was admitted last week to the Goshen General hospital. He was released Friday. Dr. E. R. Hurd of Milford was admitted Saturday to the Elkhart General hospital for observation. Mrs. Daniel Hart of r 1 Leesburg was released Tuesday from Goshen General hospital. SYRACU SE Hospital Notes * Larry Swedarsky was admitted to Goshen General hospital last week and released early this week. Mrs. Zelma Mullen was admitted to the Goshen hospital last 1 week. Mrs. Hazel Strieby of r 3 was admitted to the Goshen hospital last week and released this week. Paul Hartman of r 2 was released from the Goshen hospital last week. Jack Zimmerman of r 2 was given emergency treatment in the Goshen hospital last week for an injured left 'ankle sustained during the Concord-Syracuse basketball game. Mrs. Dallas Kitson was released from the Goshen hospital early this week. Clifford Byrd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Byrd, will be transferred from his home to the Robert Long hospital in Indianapolis Monday, Dec. 17. He is to undergo extensive therapy and treatment;
Observance Os Holidays For Syracuse License Branch Released By Gov. The following memorandum has been issued from the 'Governor’s office: “During the month of February, 1963, the legislature being in session, Washington’s birthday and Lincoln’s birthday will not. be observed as holidays by the offices under the jurisdiction of the Governor. However, as compensatory time for these two holidays, all offices under the jurisdiction of the Governor will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24, and Monday, Dec. 31, 1962.” The Syracuse License Branch manager, Mark K. Ganshom will observe the above schedule. The branch will also be closed January 1, 1963 and 1963 license plates will go on sale January 2, 1963.
