Award School Fuel Oil Contract Tuesday
The Lakeland community school board took under consideration the employment of one of three university teams to survey the school district. The decision was made at the Tuesday night meeting. The board considered teams from Indiana, Purdue universities, and Ball State Teachers college. The Indiana team would want $4, 000, and the Purdue team would want $2,000, while no estimated cost was given for the Ball State team. The purpose of the survey would be to determine where to locate a new consolidated school, what type to erect, among other considerations. No firm decision was made. Fuel Bid The board let the fuel contract to the Laketon Refinery to supply heating oil to the corporation. The bid was as follows: To the Syracuse school for 100, 000 gallons, more or less of No. 5 heating oil, .0938 per gallon. For the Milford elementary school, 75,000 gallons, more or less, No. 2 heating oil, .0950. Other bidders were the Standard oil company and . the Sun-Ray D-X oil company. The board discussed with county civil defense director Milo Clase the possibility of using the

Syracuse, Milford and Leesburg schools as fall-out shelters. Clase urged the board to sign contracts authorizing the areas to be used as fall-out shelters. No decision was made. SHS SENIORS TAKE AQE TESTS Syracuse high school seniors took AQE (Airman Qualifying Examination) tests yesterday Ynornmg in the school cafeteria. Mike Storms, also a senior, is to take ap officers qualifying test at a later date. Recruiting officers giving the test were SM Sgt. Jack Gardner of Fort Wayne and M Sgt. Robert Duglay of Warsaw. Sgt. Duglay said that the results of the twohour test would be ready in about a week and that they expected all of the Syracuse seniors would pass it. SANTA TO VISIT LIBRARY DEC. 15 Mrs. Oscar Bjella, children’s librarian at the Syracuse public library, announces that Santa Claus will greet the youngsters of Syracuse at 2p. m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the public library. There will be treats for each child.
