The school ‘ was filled with moans and groans as everyone protested that his picture was just terrible, and he certainly would not buy it. They 1 really weren’t all quite bad, but nothing gives one more satisfac- 1 tion than to say that his picture was awful and then be reassurred that it isn’t at all that bad. Among the more frivolous items on my survey of preferences was “food preference.” The major items are pizza, bar-b-q’d chicken, ham, and “anything as long as it’s edible.” Pizza rated highest, with 83 votes, comparing to 82 for bar-b---q’d chicken, 31 for “anything as long as it’s edible,” and 21 for ham. Some others mentioned were steak, shrimp, mushrooms, and 1 spaghetti. Pizza corralled seven votes among the seniors, nine among the juniors, nine among the sophomores, 24 among the freshmen, 19 among the Bth graders, and 15 among the 7th graders. Eight seniors, 11 juniors, 19 sophomores, 10 freshmen, 21 Bth graders, and 13 7th graders voted for bar-b-q’d chicken. In third place, “anything as long as it’s edible,” collected six seniors, four juniors, five sophomores, five freshmen, eight Bth graders, and three 7th graders. Ham was chosen by five seniors, three juniors, five sophomores, two freshmen, three Bth graders, and three 7th graders. * * * SENIOR OF THE WEEK DIANNE JEAN CRAFTON Dianne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bebon Crafton. A Monkey Says No Three monkeys sat in a coconut tree Discussing things as they're said to be. Said one to the others, “Now listen, you two, There’s a certain rumor that can’t be true, That man descended from our noble race. The very idea! It's a dire disdisgrace; No monkey ever deserted his wife, Starved her baby, and ruined her life. And you've never known a mother Monk To leave her babies with others to bunk, Or pass them from one to another 'Till they scarcely know who is their mother. And another thing! You’ll nev see A Monk build a fence 'round a coconut tree, And let the coconuts go to waste, Why,’ if I put a fence around this tree Starvation would force you to steal from me. Here’s another thing a Monk won’t do: Go out at night and get on a stew; Qr use a gun, or club, or knife To take some other monkey’s life. Yes, man descended, the ornery cuss, But, brother, he didn’t descend from us! Anonymous Indispensable Sometime, when you’re feeling important, Sometime, when your ego’s in bloom, Sometime, when you take it for granted, You’re the best qualified in the room Sometime, when you feel that your going, Would leave an unfillable hole, Just follow this simple instruction, And see how it humbles your soul. Take a bucket and fill it with water, Put your hand in it, up to the wrist; Pull it out; and the hole that’s remaining, Is a measure of how you’ll be missed. You ma/ splash all you please when you enter, You can stir up the water galore, But stop, and you’ll find in a minute, That it looks quite the same as before. The moral in this quaint example, Is do just the best you can. Be proud of yourself, but remember, There’s no indispensable man. — McCall Spirit
