Milford Trojans Lose To Taller Bourbon Comets Friday Evening
Milford looked good and fought hard but finally fell in the second half before a more experienced and taller Bourbon five Friday by a score of 65-53. The Trojans were down 18-15 at the end of one and 34-31 at the half, but Bourbon jumped up with a commanding 49-38 lead at the end of three and proved too much for the Trojans. Chris Booz was top man on the totem pole for Bourbon with 32 points on 16 buckets. He got most of his tallies on tip-ins after Marion Groves, top Trojan rebounder, fouled out in the third quarter. John Gerber, Milford’s only senior, netted 25 points in his first game of the season. Tom Holderread dropped in 12 points as did Bourbon’s Anders. Tomorrow (Friday) will see the Trojans playing the Cubs from Etna Green, in their first home game of the season. out the game as they topple Syracuse 45-32. Hann led the scoring for Syracuse with ten points while Steele, high point man for the Middies, also scored ten. The defeat of the Yellow Jackets was due largely to the expert foul shootng of the Middies. While the Middies made only one more field goal, they hit twice as many foul shots which definitely made a difference. Syracuse Scoring Thornburg 102, Jones 112, Ridings 244, S. Smith 021, R. Details and entry blanks are available at the Wawasee Bowl. l Marguerita Kocher, state secretary, said Sunday that reservations are coming in early, and are now far in advance of last year’s entries. She is holding one squad open for Syracuse bowlers on March 30 and 31, with doubles and singles to be bowled at 3 p. m. on Saturday, and teams to bowl at 12:30 on March 31. The Meadows Bowl, located in the Meadows Shopping Center, E. 38th St., Indianapolis, is a beautiful new establishment with 64 lanes at ground level. Mrs. Kocher said that she was very surprised and pleased at the interest shown by Syracuse bowlers. Sixteen teams from Syracuse participated in the state tournament last year. When compared with the 18 teams entered from Indianapolis, 12 from Crawfordsville and other larger cities, the representation from Syracuse was phenomenal, and she hoped that this interest would be sustained and repeated again this year. Any information needed can be obtained’ by calling Mrs. Kocher, phone 267-6506, Warsaw.
