PRIMARY MOTHERS CLUB HOLDS FIRST MEETING The Syracuse Primary Mothers club held their first meeting of the new club year with a pot luck supper at the farm home of Mrs. Philip Strieby northeast of Syracuse. Sixteen members and two guests, Mrs. Gareth Meek and Mrs. Earl Reed attended the meeting. Mrs. Jack Simmons, president, presided for the business meeting at which time a lengthy discussion was held on the theme to be used for the Mothers club spring party with the Primary Mothers club as hosts. Mrs. Gerald Hubartt, Mrs. Norman Robie and Mrs. Jay Brouwer were appointed to review assistance the club could give to the Water Safety program for next year. Mrs. Ernest Rogers won the door prize. The next meting of the club will be with Mrs. Raymond Jetmore in Wawasee Village on September 24.

MRS. NORA COLWELL HONORED ON 90TH BIRTHDAY Mrs. Nora Colwell of Syracuse was honored Monday evening at a surprise birthday party held in the Syracuse Case. The party, in celebration of her “90 years young” birthday, was given by the Pythian Sisters and the Women’s Relief Corps. Mrs. Colwell has been a charter member of the Pythians since 1896 and is also a charter member of the WRC. Presented Gifts At the party, after being feted by the group singing “Happy Birthday” as she intered the door, she was presented a corsage of yellow tea roses by Mrs. Hugh Causer. A bouquet of asters was also presented by Mrs. Ethel Grubb and gifts including cards and candy were also given. Extremely fond of ice cream, refreshments of the confection and cake were served to the guest of honor and her many well-wishers. “To know Nora is to love her” was the thought expressed by her friends. TO CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY The Ebenexer Ladies Aid will hold their annual family night and observe their 40th anniversary on Thursday evening, Sept. 20, at the Turkey Creek Conservation club house. It will begin with a carryin supper at 6:30. The evening’s program will consist of entertainment by Rev. Brubi, a talented magician, of Atwood. ■ Past Ebenezers and former members of the Byer’s church and their families are invited. Hawn, Milford, license suspended from 8-9-62 to 89- for drunk driving. Frederick Streets, Jr., 1019 Fourth street, Syracuse, license suspended from 8-6-62 to 8-6-63, for drunk driving. Gertrude (Webb) Wallen, Winona Lake, license suspended from 10- to 10-6-64, for drunk driving. LEO ANGLINS HOST AT SUNDAY NIGHT CANASTA Mr. and Mrs. Leo Anglin of r 1 Milford were hosts to the Sunday night canasta club last Sunday evening. Mrs. Herman Weisser and Delbert Dippon received high prizes and Mrs. Wayne Bucher and Willard Conn were low. The Anglins served homemade ice cream, cookies and coffee to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Weisser, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bucher, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Conn, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Dippon, Mr- and Mrs. Johnnie Fisher and to guest Max Anglin.

JAMES ALFORD James Alford, 28 is teaching industrial arts in the Syracuse high school. Mr. Alford begins his teaching career here having graduated from Ball State Teachers college this year. He spent from 1956 to 1958 in the army signal corps, is from - Warren, Indiana, and is married. Mr. Alford will sponsor the junior class.

WARREN G. HARMESON Warren Harmeson, 28, is teaching a sixth grade in the Syracuse elementary school. Mr. Harmeson received his bachelor of science degree at Ball State Teachers’ college and has taught junior high for the past two years in the Concord schools near Elkhart. A veteran, he played basketball and tennis at Ball State Teachers college, is a member of varsity lettermen’s B. club there, and lived in and around Indianapolis most of his life. His father is superintendent of the Indiana Boys’ school at Plainfield. 15is wife, Sharon, is a beautician and will be working at Bemiece’s in Syracuse. > ■ j M Maridee Cutter is a hew fourth grade teacher. Mrs. Rollin (Maridee) Cutter received her teaching degree in 1959 at Ball State Teachers college and has two years of teaching experience, one year at Ligonier and one in Indianapolis. JOAN ALFORD Joan Alford is a new second grade teacher in the Syracuse elementary school. A native of Huntington county, Mrs. James (Joan) Alford earned her master of arts degree from Ball State Teachers college this August. She has six years of teaching experience, one in Pennsylvania and five in Warren. Indiana. She and Mr. Alford, a new high school teacher, have no children.

LOIS KING Lois King is teaching a third grade class in the Syracuse elementary school. Mrs. Calvin (Lois) King received her bachelor of science degree in education at Goshen college. She has three years of teaching experience in the Cass county public schools at Garden City, Missouri. She and Mr. King, a seminary student in Goshen, are head residents at North Hall, a Goshen college men’s dormitory. .

RICHARD CRAMPTON Richard Crampton, 31, fs teaching history and health in the Syracuse high school department. Mr. Crampton is a 1953’graduate of Wabash college Where he “received his bachelor of arts degree. He spent 3 years as an officer in the Marines and has five years teaching experience. A native Os Columbia City, Mr. Crampton and Mrs. Crampton have- three children, 7, Timmy, 4, and Mary Lisa, 2. They are expecting their-fourth child.

ARNOLD DIERKS RETURN FROM TRIP

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dierks have just returned from a trip through the south. They visited Mammoth and Onyx Caves in Kentucky, Look-Out Mountain in Tennessee, the David Elder family in Atlanta Georgia, swam in the Atlantic Ocean in Florida, drove through the Smoky Mountains and the Cumberland Falls National Paries. Kris, Joie and Debbie, their small children, were cared for at the Myrtus Custer home, near Sidney. Mrs. Dierks says traveling is fun but home is best.

Town And Country Club Elects Officers

Members of the Town and Country club of Milford met at the home of Mrs. Lawrence Myers on Friday afternoon to elect officers. Club officers for 1963 are as follows: President - Mrs. Robert Brown. Vice-President - Mrs. Don Davidsen. Secretary - Mrs. Hattie Becker. Assistant - Mrs. Harold Wilson. Treasurer - Mrs. Lawrence Myers. Publicity - Mrs. Becker. Pianist - Mrs. Jacob Tusing, Chorister - Mrs. Donald Wolferman. Garden leader - Mrs. Iva Ostendorf. Health and Safety - Mrs. Forrest Ramser, and Mrs. Paul Mathews. Mrs. George Wilson, out-going president, presided at the election of officers. x Mrs. Don Davidsen, secretary, read minutes of the I July meeting since no meeting was | held in August due to the county fair. Eleven members responded to roll call which was “A Musical Memory.” Club Wins First Prize A prize of $5 and a blue ribbon was won by the club at the county fair for a garden exhibit. Mrs. Ostendorf was chairman of the fair committee and ‘ was congratulated for her prize winning exhibit after which she thanked her committee for their work and cooperation. Officers of the Sunshine club are invited to attend the October 5 meeting of Town and Country to be held at the lake home of Mrs. George Wilson at Papakeechie. Club members are invited to be luncheon guests of Wawakeechie club at the Turkey Creek Conservation club house on October 24. October 17 was announced as achievement day at the Boice treater at Warsaw. A trio consisting of Mrs. Glen Brown, Mrs. Robert Brown and Mrs. Donald Wolferman will present several musical selections at this meeting. Mrs. Ramser discussed 4-H Automotive Safety project for the health and safety lesson. The hostess served coffee and assorted cookies and nuts preceding the business meeting. MORE MILFORD SCHOOL NEWS BAND AND CHORUS NEWS By Connie Fox The band and chorus are off to a good start. We elected officers; and the juniors took most of the offices. i The president is Dick Sharp; ' vice president, Mike Treesh; sec- ’ retary, Jean Kaiser; treasurer, Susie Beer. Judy Rapp and Connie Motts will take care of the music. We have started on a few new pieces. Mr. Judkins is offering a widp selection —from “The Ballard of Davy Crockett” to “The Great Gong.” The chorus hasn’t done too much as yet, but the group plans to be i busy after school gets under way. SCHOOL MENU Monday — Sloppy Joe’s, potato chips, com, orange-grapefruit cup, brownie and milk. Tuesday— Beef and dumplings, creamed peas, bread and butter, orange juice; cherry cobbler and niilk. , r ' ' • * ; Wednesday — Raggedy Ann sandwich, potato salad, green beans, sliced pineapple, cookie and milk. Thursday — Hamburger and spaghetti, cheese squares, salad bread and butter, carrot sticks, raisin cups, and milk. Friday — Beef-Vegetable stew, applesauce, bread, butter and jelly, ice cream, choc, syrup and milk.
