Section 2 of the above Ordinance was revised to reflect a change of license fee from a previously determined fee of SIO.OO per day to an annual cost of $35.00. 25 YEARS AGO, JULY 29, 1937 Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Sparklin attended the circus at South Bend last Thursday. Miss Clara Overleese has accepted employment at -he Lakes Trail lunch room at road 6. Miss Overleese is in charge of the cooking and baking. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Brown of Redmon Park report the catching of some very nice bluegills in Dewart Lake during the past ten days. Everett Closson, Clarence Miller and Ivan Kline played w r ith the Warsaw band Thursday evening for a supper held at the Masonic temple by the Masons. Mrs. Dora Berkeypile is a patient at the Goshen hospital for observation. Miss June Elizabeth Best, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Best of Nappanee, was married to Ralph R. Biller, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Biller of r 2 Milford, at 2 p. m. Saturday in the Presbyterian manse in Goshen. Clarence Price has his calliope in working order now and has mounted it on a trailer. He expects to use it advertising, his electric fence controls. Miss Marian Sharp entertained 16 members of the Chi Omega Sorority and two guests, Misses Bemiece Sharp of Warsaw and Marybelle Lentz, Thursday evening at a 6 o’clock dinner. 35 YEARS AGO, JULY 28, 1927 Mrs. Lincoln Martin drove her Ford sedan into the plate glass front at the Brittsan furniture store early Thursday evening, shattering the large glass. A surprise party was given for Dorothy Wiley at her home at Redmon park on July 15, it being her ninth birthday anniversary. Dr. F. J. Young attended the state Legion convention at South Bend on Sunday and Monday. A daughter weighing seven pounds was bom to Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Wenger on Saturday night. The baby was named Norma Jean. Virgil Miller has gone to Philadelphia where he is enrolled for a several weeks’ course in the At-water-Kent radio service school. 40 YEARS AGO, JULY 27, 1022 The marriage of Miss Gwendolyn Caris to Harry B. Martin of Milford was solemnized Monday afternoon at three o’clock at the M. E. parsonage, Rev. T. S. Haddock, pastor of the Methodist church, performing the wedding ceremony. Miss Trella Caris, sister of the bride, was in attendance at the ceremony. The first Cory reunion to be held in this seption *f the county, took place Sunday, July 23, on the old Abijan Curtis Cory farm on the Stringtown road between Syracuse and Milford. Martin Homan presented The Mail office with a basket of very nice yellow transparent apples the first of the week. A black skunk about five or six weeks old was caught on Main street Tuesday afternoon by George Rassi and Earl Becknell. Austin McKibben of Milford and Herman Brunning of south of Warsaw bought the retail store of the Pence Mfg. Co., at Warsaw last week. . Fred Waldbeser has gone to Illinois where he will spend several weeks visiting friends and relatives. . I Manly Deeter has had the building on his farm SE of town repainted, which now presents a fine appearance. Mrs. E. W. Higbee was a Warsaw visitor on Friday. 50 YEARS AGO, JULY 25, 1912 Balsar Bucher, an old gentleman living west of Milford, reports sweet com ten feet high and still going upward. Henry Gibson of East Catherine street is having a fine veranda erected. The base is of concrete. James Neff, Jr., the grain and coal merchant at the B and O station, has leased the property of Frank Groves on West Emeline street and formerly occupied by John Scarlett. The J. A. Doering annual reunion was* held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Vail last Sunday, July 21. Prof. Vanderveer and family took dinner with Mr. and Mrs. John Vanderveer on Sunday. George Sweet, while using a hand sickle in dressing a lawn, cut his left hand severely. The wound had to be dressed by a physician. Miss Beatrice Cottrell spent Wednesday in Goshen. James Shepard of Milford has completed the wiring of the new residence, of Jacob Brown north of Milford. Miss Bessie Burris returned on Thursday evening from her visit to Chicago and left on Saturday for Detroit, Mich. One of the best transfer stations along the B and O railroad is at Milford. Fred Kleder of Indianapolis is in Milford this week, plumbing the new residence for his father, C. T. Kleder.
Wa-Nee Community Schools Hold July 16 Meeting The Wa-Nee Community schools of Elkhart and Kosciusko counties, formerly the Southwest School District, met at the Nappanee school on Monday evening, July 16. During the business meeting presided over by vice president, William Jessup, the board considered the lease proposal agreement reached between its attorney and the owners of administration office space. then instructed its attorney to draw up a lease agreement with the owners of the space now occupied by the Nappanee Telephone Company and Joseph Kindig. After examination by the treasurer and on his recommendation, a motion was made and seconded that the claims in the amount of $462.90 be allowed. The motion was carried. The board discussed the matter of formulating a policy on purchasing. It was agreed that for the present, the superintendent should order small equipment and supplies.
