Woodland School Situation At Standstill
Pierceton and Monroe township residents who are interested in the progress of local school re-organi-zation feel that the school situatin here is at a stand-still. This feeling has been pre-dom-inant in the minds of local citizens ever since the meeting was held here last Monday night with the state committee on school reorganization. At that time about 60 residents of the proposed Woodland school district (Washington, Monroe, Jackson, Lake and Clay townships) met at the Pierceton gym to see what further action could be taken other than to have another vote in November on the plan that was turned down at the polls in May. At that time four of the five townships turned the plan down, with Jackson township being the only township favoring the Woodland plan. It is the opinion of many, as set out by Leon Kubacki in the meeting last Monday night, that a November vote will defeat the Woodland plan by a greater margin than the May vote.
CALVARY EUB WSWS MEETS WEDNESDAY The General Women’s Society of World Service of Calvary EUB church met Wednesday evening at the church for a carry-in supper with fifty-two members present. The devotional period was in •charge of Mrs. Raymond Kitson who used “Christian Love” as the theme. Mrs. Carrie Champlin read the scripture lesson from First John, chapter 14, one to 19 verses. Mrs. Court Slabaugh conducted a memorial service for Mrs. Catherine Beck using Proverbs 31, the virtuous woman. Mrs. Kitson closed the devotions with prayer. A musical program was given consisting of a piano duet by Mrs. Karth Haines and Mrs. Harry Appenzeller; a vocal solo by Mrs. Opal Nolan and selections by a kitchen band composed of the Mesdames Howard Juday, Vearl Gaff, Paul Pollock, Peter Savage, Charles Disher, Haines, Arlin Bobeck and Miss Dorothy Carlson with Mrs. Calvin Johnson at the Piano and Mrs. Appenzeller as the director. The business session was presided over by the president, Mrs. Ralph Loose. The pastor, the Rev. Kennard Robinson, gave an explanation of the church needs followed by reports from the executive committee and the Circle leaders. It was voted to support the project of sending the young

THE MAJL-JOURNAL
The meeting was held last week to see if another plan could be worked out to be voted upon in November. Those who attended the meeting last Monday night felt as hough no effort was made to come up with an alternate plan. They feel that four months will be wasted during which time no minds will be changed concerning the Woodland plan. Many questions raised at the meeting last Monday night were not satisfactorily answered, was a remark heard more than once. Word has been received in ’ierceton and Monroe township hat chairman of the Kosciusko rounty committee for school re>rganization, John F. Augsburger of Lake Wawasee, plahs to solicit he help of “influential citizens” n the Woodland district to “sell he plan to the voters.” At that rate, the county comnittee plans no solution to the ■chool situation in the Woodlahd irea, but will train its guns ona selling job rather than an amicable solution.
