Tips For Better Golf ■■■■ By Pro Don Byrd Wawasee Golf Course
The grip without doubt is one of the most important fundamentals of the golf swing. All the finest players in the world have characteristically good sound grips. Some overlap (Vardon grip), some interlock, and some neither (baseball). But, regardless of this “little finger” connection of the two hands as a unit, the position of the hands relative to man's physical structure is allimportant. When standing completely relaxed with both hands at your side, the position the hands are in is the position they should be placed on the club. 1. Place the-club diagonally across the left hand so the club is in mostly a finger grip. If the grip were arger one could palm it much like a .baseball bat, but, the grip issmal and must primarily be held in the fingers. 2. Close the left hand so the butt of the hand is on top of the club to firmly receive the pressure of the grip exerted by the fingers underneath. 3. Place the right hand (again in the fingers) on the club, allowing the right little finger to overap the left index finger. This overlapping reinforces the left index finger’s strength on the club. contrast, when interlocking two fingers are pulled partially off the grip, resulting in a slight loss of pressure to the grip. 4. Close the right hand so the left thumb fits snuggly in the groove in the palm of the right hand. A simple means of checking this correct hand position is to make certain the arrows formed by the thumbs and forefingers point in the vicinity of the right shoulder, and children of Milford were guests Sunday at a chicken barbeque dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Scott of near Milford.
