Let Contracts For Syracuse School Addition At a special meeting of the Metropolitan Board of Education held Friday evening, April 27, the board awarded contracts for the building of the science addition to the high school and the remodeling of the homemaking area to the following contractors: General Contracts (including homemaking alternate), Brown and Brown of Wakarusa $5;546.00 Heating, Plumbing & .Ventilating (including homemaking alternate), Haughk Plumbing of Decatur $28,400.00 Electrical Contract, Delp Electric Company of Bourbon $6,817.00 Science Equipment - King Equipment Company .. $22,838.95 Total contracts .... $109,601.95 It was pointed out by the board that the remodeling of the homemaking area was an alternate in the original bidding and upon examination of funds available, and monies to be received from matching fund (Title HI - National Defense Education Act) for science equipment it would be possible to accept the alternates for the remodeling of the homemaking area and have. the total final cost to the school district for construction be smaller than the original cost of the base bids. The board determined that since both of these projects were essential both for now and or in a reorganized district they would go ahead with the entire project at the present time. They also pointed out there are certain basic costs that are always present in a project of this type and if one or the other of the parts of this project was all that was done at the present time, then the initial costs and the time factor (costs: —including legal fees for advertising, surety and performance bonds, builders risk insurance, approval by state agencies, architects fees, etc.) would have to be paid a second time. It is the feeling of the board that his project will prepare the facilities at Syracuse for use as a high school for that period of 0 time necessary in an interim should the district be reorganized, and also serve well in a reorganization in providing for modern facilities in the homemaking area and in both natural and physical scienes in a junior high school (grades 7-8-9)* should it be decided by some future board that present facilities at Syracuse are to be used for that purpose. Members of the board are: James C. Stucky, C. W. Kroh, J. D. Shewmon, Ronald V. Kramer, Dr. Robert A. Craig. Lewis S. Immel is the superintendent. Legals.
