LEGION AUXILIARY HOLDS APRIL MEET Members of Wawasee Unit 223 of the American Legion Auxiliary, Syracuse, met Tuesday evening) April 24, at 7 :30 at the Legion hall. The meeting was opened by persident Agnes Causer with advance of colors and pledge to the flag. Group singing of the Star Spangled Banner was followed by prayer by chaplain Mrs. Ray Sarjent. Mrs. Blanche Kline, secretary, read minutes of previous meeting and Mrs. Harry Coy, treasurer, gave a financial report, both were approved as read. Visit Nursing Home : Mrs. Kline, also Knightstown Home chairman, reported a box of candy bars and an Easter card had been sent to their boy at the Knightstown home. Junior activities chairman, Mrs. Billy Coburn, reported the Junior Auxiliary girls made lovely Easter baskets, decorated with grass, cupcakes, colored pggs and Easter candies ana presented them to patients at the Orn Nursing home in Milford for Easter. Each girl in turn received a memo pad from the home. One special point of interest to the girls was a patient with nearly 1,500 pencils collected from various places. Plans werd discussed for honoring the units’ Gold Star Mother, Mrs. George Xanders, at a dinner proceeding the next regular meeting. Mrs. Delbert Brown is chairman. Chili Supper Cancelled An announcement was made that the auxiliary chili supper scheduled for May 5 at the Legion home has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond their control. After various other business, the meeting was adjourned with the prayer for peace and retirement of the colors. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. O. P. Davis and Mrs. Herbert Stanfield. BETHANY MOTHERDAUGHTER BANQUET HELD FRIDAY Forty-eight persons attended the Bethany home demonstration club mother-daughter banquet Friday evening at the Syracuse Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Guy Vail gave the welcome and her daughter, Mrs. Eldon Stump, gave the response. The invocation was given by Mrs. Ralph Everett. Dinner was served by the women of the cnurch. A delightful program folowed the dinner which consisted of group singing of a hymn led by Mrs. R. E. Tulley; a vocal solo by Mrs. Ellis Eby; a reading, Mrs. Zerola Zook and a vocal solo by Miss Phyllis George. Galen Whitehead showed pictures and told of his trip to Ecuador.

INSPECTION OF BUSINESSES Starting April 30, an inspection is being made on all business buildings in Turkey Creek township and Syracuse proper under supervision of the Syracuse fire department. This inspection is headed by assistant fire chief Carl Myrick who attended fire inspection school. A layout of all buildings will be made so firemen will know where they can enter in case of an emergency. Inspections will ot made frum 4 to 6 in the evenings arid all co-operation will be greatly appreciated. TRAFFIC HAZARD REMOVED Brush accumulations on comers and at cross roads have always been serious traffic hazards. Now that spring is again upon us and our vegetable growths are again running riot, perhaps owners or public minded citizens will help eliminate or at leapt minimize these life takers and do as was done on the corner of the Cinese Gardens near Kale Island. Someone with some foresight eliminated the brush growth there by definitely improving visibility. Wava Finton, Velma Penn, and Shirley Talmadge are working like beavers for the decorations for the Ladies Thursday Nite Bowling banquet, come May 10 . . . very secretive, too! , . . there were two teen-age boys racing their cars out on state road 13, south . . . there’s a line on the ocean where you lose a day when you cross it —there’s a line on most highways, boys, where you can do even better! ! . . . and we’d like to keep you around for a while . . . Jack and Charlie, behind the meat counter at Klink’s, are two of the friendliest guys ever, but don’t get Jack started talking about Florida ... he gets that faraway look in his eye and mentally flies back to Sanibel Island . . . my favorite little miss, Debbie Stahley, had a birthday Saturday, and she wasn’t too sure that the personal check was worth anything, since it was her first. Who said, “When you hear a man brag that he knows all about ? women, I’ll show you a man who is in for a BIG surprise” ? . . . That’s all for this week, folks.
