PAINTINGS ON EXHIBIT — Diane Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Martin of Syracuse, has had three of her paintings chosen for exhibit at the American Academy of Art in Chicago where she is a student. , ? ■ Each teacher submits the best are work from his class to the office of the director, Frank H. Young, who chooses from these which ones will be put on exhibit. Diane has maintained an average of B plus while at the academy. She is a 1961 graduate of Syracuse high school and while there was a charter member of the National Honor Society. While attending art school Diane resides at the Three Arts Club of Chicago.

SPRING CLEAN-UP AT SYRACUSE CEMETERY It has .been announced that is is spring clean-up time at the Syracuse cemetery. A new retaining wall is being built, graves are being filled in and grass seed is being sewn. Anyone who has any winter flowers on graves, other than urns, is asked to remove them. Anything left after April 15, that is not attractive or is will be moved. Syracuse-Wawasee Garden Club Meets Members of the Syracuse-Wa-wasee Garden club met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Jack Clark with Mrs. John Craw assisting.. Mrs. Carl Reynolds, president, presided at the business meeting. A report on the school tea was given by Mrs. Herschel Leatherman and Mrs. Reynolds. Mrs. Ernest Bushong reported on the Chicago World Flowe r jind Garden show held recently at McCormick Place in Chicago. During the business meeting, plans and ideas for summer activities were discussed. A report was read from the National Gardener. The club wishes to remind the merchants that now is the time to water the trees planted in the planters along Main street in Syracuse. If the trees are not watered now, they will die.

EUB Men’s Organization Entertains Varsity Basketball Team The E. U. B. Men Organization of the Syracuse Calvary EUB church entertained the Syracuse high school varsity and “B” teams and their coaches at a delicious dinner Saturday evening at the church. “ Robert Cowan, assistant personal director at the Fort Wayne schools, was the guest speaker. Mr. Cowan is a former coach, football player for the Cleveland Browns football team and a former player with the Indiana University basketball team. Members of both teams were introduced by their coaches. Rollin Cutter is the varsity coach. Loren Longenbaugh in the absence of Eldon Ummel, “B” team coach, introduced the second team. Junior Mothers Club Meets Monday Evening Nineteen members of the Junior Mothers club met Monday night at the Syracuse Lake home of Mrs. Dale Allen. Mrs. Donald McNamara, president, presided for the short business session at which time additional spring party plans were discussed and the 1 remainder of of the evening was spent working on the plans. x Mrs. Carl Hadley assisted the hostess in serving refreshments at the close of the evening. Mrs. ' James McCall will be hostess for the next meeting on April 16. Syracuse 4-H Girls Attend Share-The-Fun-Festival Tuesday At Warsaw Twenty-four girls of the Syracuse Pollyanna Girls 4-H club attended the annual share-the-fun-festival Tuesday evening at Warsaw. Mrs. Ralph Thornburg, Jr., Mrs. Charles F. Kroh, Mrs. James Michael and Mrs. Raymond Wilson accompanied the girls. Judy Bryan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bryan, won alternate in the curtain act division with a variety twirling show routine. Judy represented the 70 members of the Syracuse Girls 4-H club. \ Syracuse Paris Board Advertising For Concession Operator At Park The Syracuse park board is advertising for an operator of the city park concession stand and picnic tables for the summer months. The park board is carrying a paid ad in this issue of the MailJournal for such a park operator. Members of the board are Ed Kleinknight, president, Hilary Bachman and Theldon (Bud) Kline.

Amy Leigh has three brothers and a sister. Mrs. Speicher is jthe former Miriam Beer. ZIMMERMAN, Victoria Ann i ’Victoria Ann was bom to Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Zimmerman of r 2 Milford at 2 a. m. Monday, April 2, at Goshen General hospital. The Zimmermans have three older daughters. - KAMMERER, Kay Ann I Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kammerer, r 2 Leesburg, became the parents of a daughter at 12:50 a. m. Monday, April 2, at Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw. The baby was named Kay Ann. The couple has another daughter, Cynthia Lee, age 1. CHARLTON, Scott Allan A son, Scott Allan, was bom to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Charlton of Leesburg on March 27 and checked in at a nice 7 lbs. and 5 ounces. Mrs. Esther Charlton of Milford, the paternal grandmother, thihks he is ‘‘such a good baby.” Born in the Columbia City hospital, Scott is the couple’s first baby. The mother is the former Sue Albert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Albert of Leesburg. BUSCH, Roberta Grace Mr. and Mrs. Robert Busch of r 3 Syracuse are the parents of a daughter, Roberta Grace, bom on Monday, April 2, at Murphy Medical Center iq Warsaw. Roberta weighed nine pounds and two ounces. The baby has five brothers and one sister. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Adams of Akron and Mr. and Mrs. Vearl Welker of Burnsville. . • ' T's JESSOP SON Mr. and Mrs. Kurman Dale Jes-, sop of Milford became the parents of a .son bom this morning, Thursday, April 5, at 8:10 o’clock'at Go- 1 shen General ‘hospital. The son weighed 8 pounds, 14% ounces. A name has not been chosen. MRS. JESSE REX INJURED IN FALL Mrs. Jesse Rex of 612 South Huntington street, Syracuse, is convalescing at her home from injuries received in a fall at her home around 4 p.m. Monday, according to a report from her daughter, Mrs. John Sudlow.Mrs. Rex was thought to have blacked out and fell to the floor from the edge of the divan. Mr. Rex heard a noise and found her immediately. They, had been spring celaning. She was taken to Goshen General hospital for treatment and dismissed to her home on Tuesday. Mrs. Rex received a fracture of the left hip bone and although no surgery was required, she will not be able to be on her feet or do any household duties for about three months. Mrs. Sudlow'. said she thought in the near future her mother could be up in a wheel chair about the house. A year ago last December Mrs. Rex received breaks in both legs and both arms in a fall at the basement stairs in her home.

Turkey Creek Homebuilders Tour Antique Shop Turkey Creek Homebuilders club of Milford met at the home of Mrs. Dale Atkinson on Wednesday evening. They went to Nappanee to tour the Village Antique Shop. A hour through the antique shop included furniture, slides on furniture arrangement and types of furniture. Coffee and cookies were served to the ladies at the shop. Upon returning to the home of Mrs. Atkinson a short business meeting was conducted during which the ladies decided to send a sunshine box to a small boy. A hat sale was conducted with each member wearing the hat that she had purchased for the remainder of the evening. Mrs. Atkinson and Mrs. Ray Slagle served sandwiches, pie and cocoa to the meihbers and one guest, present, Mrs. Alice Atkinson, Door prizes were won by Mrs. Worth Jackson and Mrs. Francis Korenstra. The next meeting will be May 2 with Mrs. Helene Faulkner. Guest Os Wix Filter Company Mrs. Darwin Darnell was a recent three-day guest of the Wix Filter Company of Gastonia, N. C., along with the sales personnel -of Mid-States Automotive of Indianapolis. All guests were flown roundtrip by jet and stayed at the beautiful Holiday Inn.. HELPING HANDS IN REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING TUESDAY The Helping Hands held their monthly meeting on Tuesday c”“ning, March 27, in the church d”ing room of the New Salem church. Mrs. Glen Morehouse was hostess and Mrs. Lavent Tom, co-hostess. THE MELVIN ZIMMERMANS HOST BIRTHDAY DINNER Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Zimmerman of Milford were hosts at a birthday dinner in their home last Sunday noon. The dinner honored the birthdays of the Zirrfmermans two sons, Tony and Terry, and their niece, Jeanne Zimmerman Hodges, of Urbana. Others present to enjoy the delicious ham dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Michael Zimmerman, Mary and Mike, Clarence Stieglitz and the Misses Freda, Emma and Florence Stieglitz of Elkhart, and Mrs. C. D. Hodges and children of Urbana. x Rev. Ralph Loose left Wednesday for a medical check-up at the Bluffton Clinic.

Mrs. Ray Buhrt Entertains Intermediate Mothers Club Monday The Intermediate Mothers club of Syracuse met Monday night at the home of Mrs. Ray Buhrt. Mrs. Buhrt, vice-president, presided for the business meeting. Mrs. Charles Miller won the sunshine gift. Elementary principal Edgar A. Speer presented the interesting and informative program by showing a film strip entitled “Your Child’s Intelligence.” A discussion followed the film. The April 16 meeting will be with Mrs. Charles Garner at Leesburg. At the close of the evening, refreshments were served by the hostess assisted by Mrs. Earl Money and Mrs. Isabelle Stahley.
