James Connolly Completes Airboume Course In Georgia * FORT BENNING, GA.—Army 2d Lt. James C. Connolly, son of Mrs. Catharine E. Sims, 630 Front street, Syracuse, and James C. Connolly, 1207 East State St., Fort Wayne, completed the airborne course at the Infantry school at Fort Benning, Ga., on February 16. Lieutenant Connolly received his ’ paratrooper wings after completing four weeks of intensive ground and aerial training which included five parachute jumps from an altitude of 1,250 feet. He received instruction in the duties of a jumpmaster and in the techniques of air transportation and delivery. The 23-year old officer is a 1956 graduate of Syracuse high school. He is a 1961 graduate of the U. S.. Military Academy, West Point, N. Y. Gary Hollar Serving On Dock Landing Ship NORFOLK, Va. (FHTNG) : — Gary R. Hollar, radarman seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard W. Hollar of Route 2, Milford, Ind., is serving aboard the dock landing ship USS Donner, a unit of the Atlantic Fleet Amphibious Force, headquartered at Norfolk, Va., which celebrates its 20th anniversary on Feb. 20. Organized on Feb. 20, 1942, the force lead every major Allied amphibious landing in North Africa and Europe during World War H. Today, nearly 17,000 assigned to 58 ships and supporting units make up the force, which teams with the Atlantic Fleet Marine Force to provide a vital amphibious striking capability for the nation. Combat-ready units range the Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and Anarctic Oceans, as well as the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas. Vice Adm. Alfred G. Ward, commander of the Atlantic amphibs, sent a personal anniversary message to the men of his force praising their importance as a “vanguard in peace and spearhead in war.” Hospital Hotes Goshen General Hospital Mrs. Elizabeth Rookstool, 201 North Huntington street, Syracuse, was admitted for medical attention Thursday and dismissed Monday. SEEKS RE-ELECTION — Howard (Sam) Holbrook, Kosciusko county sheriff, is seeking re-elec-tion to the post he holds. A Democrat, Holbrook is the first member of his party to be elected sheriff for nearly 50 years. He was victorious in a primary race over five opponents and defeated state trooper J. D. Geiger of North Webster in the 1958 November election. He is a native of Warsaw, and has done a commendable job as county sheriff.
Gene B. Lee Announces Candidacy Gene B. Lee, Warsaw attorney, has announced his candidacy for nomination for circuit court judge of Kosciusko county, in the coming May 8 primary election, on, the Republican ticket. The $13,000 per year post is presently held by Judge Seth E. Rowdabaugh, 68, now completing his final year of a six-year term. Lee is a native of Boswell, Indiana, is married to the former Mary Knepper of Etna Green and has four children. The family lives at 936 East Main , street, Warsaw. Active Party Record Mr. Lee has an active record of party service for several years. In, 1947 he was city attorney and the following year was elected county prosecuting attorney for two years and served three years as Republican county chairman. Lee is an honor graduate ofIndiana university school of Btfsiness in 1944 and received his law dejree two years later. He is presently president of Kosciusko County Bar association, a board member of the Etna Bank, Etna Green, a member of the Presbyterian church, American Legion, Masonic Lodge. Scottish Rite and Shrine club. He has practiced law in Warsaw for 16 years and is associated with Rockhill, Vanderveer, Kennedy and Lee. ’ Thursday Evening Sewing Club Meets With Mrs. John F. Augsburger The Thursday Evening Sewing club of Milford met at the Syracuse home of Mrs. John F. Augsburger on February 22. The vice president, Mrs. Clayton Hollar, presided over the short business meeting. Mrs. Augsburger received an anniversary gift from her secret pal. Refreshments of cherry pie and coffee were served to 11 members present. Each proposal shall be accompanied by an acceptable certified check or bank draft, or a satisfactory bid bond executed by the bidder and a surety company, itaade payable to the Town Board of Silver Lake, Indiana, for an amount not less than 5 per cent of the proposal as liquidated damages in the case of failure of any successful bidder to enter into a contract or furnish a satisfactory performance bond in an amount equal to the bidders’ contract price, and after notification of the acceptance of the bidder’s proposal. No bidder shall withdraw his proposal for a period of 60 days after the date set for the opening of said proposals. Contractors awarded work shall furnish acceptable surety bond in the amount of 100 per cent of the contract price. The contract documents, including plans and specifications, are on file at the office of the Town Board President, Silver Lake, Indiana, at the office of D. H. Lessig Engineers, Inc., Times Building, Warsaw, Indiana, and at the office of the State Board of Accounts, Indianapolis, Indiana. Copies of the documents, including plans and specifications, may be obtained by depositing $25.00 with D. H. Lessig Engineers, Inc., at their office in the Times Building, Warsaw. Indiana, which amount will be refunded to each actual bidder who returns such documents, plans, etc., in good condition within 10 days after the opening of the bids. Wage rates on this work shall not be less than the prescribed scale of wages as determined pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 319 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Indiana of 1935.
