Town And Country Club In February Meeting Friday
The Town and Country club met at the home of Mrs. Robert Brown Friday afternoon when the members and guests heard an interesting discussion by Miss Mary Jane Gard of Indianapolis and saw films prepared by the Indiana Heart association. Miss Gard showed two films dealing with “strokes” and “varicose veins.” Strokes are caused by the rupturing of blood vessels in the brain which may cause paralysis on either side of the body, paralysis of the vocal muscles, or that part of the brain affecting the memory. Varicose veins are caused by the valves in the blood vessels breaking dbwn which allows large amounts of blood to descend to the lower parts of the body, especially the legs, causing the rupturing of the blood vessels, and which in turn create varicose veins. These can sometimes be tied off and the injured part cut out—or the patient may wear supporting bandages. The Indiana Heart association is continually doing research oh rheumatic heart trouble, congenital heart diseases, cardio vascular disease and artherosclerosis, cholesterol in the arteries, etc. Business Meeting Mrs. George Wilson, club president, presided at the business meeting during which Mrs. Donald Davidsen read the minutes and called roll of members.
