TO PARTICIPATE IN TALKS ON DRIVER EDUCATION HERE It was announced by the Metropolitan Board of Education that at the invitation of Merrill Scott, assistant superintendent for Field Service of the State Department of Public Instruction, superintendent Lewis S. Immel, of our local school district, has been invited to participate in a conference of college and secondary school educators to help establish a more coordinate curriculm for the training of teachers in the field of driver education. The board reported that in his request, Mr. Scott felt that Mr. Immel’s services would be particularly beneficial since he had taught driver education for several years in the past, and knew* the -problems from that standpoint of the teacher, as well as school administrator. This conference will be held on the campus at Indiana university, February 1„ 2 and 3 and will under the direct supervision of the office of School Traffic Safety Education, LaVaughn Hawkins, director. Host for the conference will be Dr. Bernard I. Loft, associate professor of health and safety in the school of Health Physical Education and Recreation at Indiana university; consultant for the conference will be Harold Charolton, education consultant of the American Automobile Association, Washington, D. C. office. Other participants in the conference will be representative teacher-trainers from Purdue university, Indiana State college, Ball State Teachers college and all other colleges in the state who are interested in training teachers in the field of driver education and practicing driver education teachers.
It is hoped that this conference will result in a more unified curriculum for the training of young men and women to be teachers of driver education and thus promote this important function of the public schools of Indiana, the board said. '
